MBE dress help!

findnonnaadress · 10/09/2021 17:22

My Dgrandmother has been awarded an MBE and is finally (hopefully) able to attend the ceremony. There will be a small tea party to follow and photographs.

She is over the moon and would like to look the business...

She is 91 and mobile but would prefer to look online rather than go shopping as it's tiring for her, though could perhaps try 1 department store.

91, fair colouring, short (under 5ft) and probably a 16.

Could anyone recommend or suggest an outfit for a wonderful older lady, to feel her best. Likes some bright colours, not too traditional 'mother of the bride' esq.

Thank you for helping Smile

How lovely, congratulations to her!

My mum is 80 and petite and likes Hobbs and Fenn Wright Manson. They both have a petite range and they're classic without looking frumpy. The pair of FWM white linen trousers she bought this summer are hands down the most chic pair of trousers I've ever seen her wear.

If you live near a Waitrose you can order from JL and collect from/return to Waitrose, which saves you from schlepping to a shop.

(Sorry, that wasn't an actual outfit recommendation Blush When does she need her outfit? Everything in those links seems to be rather summery.)

Could something like the John Lewis personal stylist service help? They're still doing online appointments at the moment as well as in-store I think

Congratulations to your grandmother!

In her 90s, my mum had difficulty with zips, buttons etc but preferred to dress herself so tended to choose simple pull on trousers and tops. I think for an event like this, she might have looked for a fabulous coat to wear on top. She liked Poetry - I've just had a look and nothing jumped out at me but I bet they'll have more in a couple of weeks.

Not sure if she'd wear trousers.. but I might suggest

What’s the budget? A Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress would be just the ticket. There are quite a few in a 16 on sale on the outnet: www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/designers/diane-von-furstenberg/clothing/dresses?orderBy=8

Shibumi do the most lovely jackets/coats in gorgeous colours that might work

Pinkcadillac · 10/09/2021 20:14

The Shibumi shift dresses are lovely too

Floisme · 10/09/2021 20:17

Yes Shibumi - I was trying to remember what they were called!

I haven't actually asked her what the budget would be, great point. I'll do that tomorrow.

I assume she's happy with higher end high street.
