My Autumn coat and jacket collection consists of leather jacket, denim jacket, and two wool winter coats. I'm looking for something more in the middle to wear in the style / silhouette of a coat (longline) but for days when it's not cold enough for a warm coat. It would also be helpful if it was at least partially rainproof, though I always carry a brolly. I think a trench fits the brief, but over the years I have tried them on so many times and I never feel they suit me. For some reason a trench coat really ages me, whereas a longline winter coat suits me as I'm tall. I'm not sure what it is about trenches. I love how they look on other people / models but never on me!
What alternatives to a trench could I look at that will work in the same way? This Autumn it would mainly be worn over wide leg trousers and chunky boots, or micro mini with black tights and chunky boots or sneakers, or a long printed dress and boots, and blouses / jumpers.
I'm late 30's if that's relevant and quite into fashion.
