Dark brown to red hair without bleach?

My hair is coloured dark brown at the moment. It was coloured glacial brown I think it was called before this. I'm now abit bored of the dark brown and starting to feel abit yuck about myself and recently thought about going burgandy. Has anyone been able to go from dark brown to reddish colour without bleach? My skin is quite pale and am told I'm pink toned so not sure it would suit me. Would I definitely need to bleach it? Thanks

I've just been looking at styles and I'm open to just putting the red under the fringe and around the sides maybe? BUT I've just seen a lovely style of platinum blonde under the fringe and sides which goes against me using the bleach but now I'm tempted but not sure whether I'd end up a yellow or orange mess!

If your hair is dyed a dark brown it has to be stripped (bleached) to go lighter. However, you can try this trick to see if it will remove some of the colour, try the Vitamin C shampoo mix, it usually works to remove semi permanent colours, but can sometimes help to fade any dyes. Google it for the method. It’s quite drying to the hair though. Once you’ve lifted some of the dye out, you may be able to achieve a burgundy colour. Same if you try Colour B4, that’ll probably leave you with a coppery/light brown colour then you can colour it (only use a semi) the colour you want, but go a couple of shades lighter as it will go darker than you want. I hope that makes sense!

Brilliant thankyou I will do the vitamin c. My hair does have red under tone at the minute from the dye I had in before so will probably go a reddish coppery colour

Well I dyed my DDs mid-brown hair with Manic Panic vampire kiss just at the end of the summer term. It took really well, and although is supposed to be semi permanent and still hasn’t come out at all. School not best impressed but might be worth a try!

This is before and after - the second shot is 4 weeks after dying!

@ceeveebee that's a lovely colour. I might do a strand test to see how it lifts. I remember years ago adding a bright red under my fringe I did ot twice and it came out a dark red colour and I didn't use bleach but that was only a little bit of hair not sure ot would work all over

Another vote for using a colour remover. The box ones work well, but you need to follow the instructions carefully (eg rinsing times).

Red is v difficult to get rid of, so I'd suggest something non-permanent to start with if you're unsure.

Thankyou I'll start with a semi then and see if I like it and go from there thankyou

I'd like to lighten my dark brown colour too, I bought some colour remover from amazon which had good reviews but haven't been brave enough to use it yet!
