Sweater help

I'm looking for some nice, everyday knitwear. To wear with denim & cord skirts.

I'm not the finest with laundry so nothing that's difficult to wash, really.

Where can you recommend for decent, durable, nice sweaters. Not cashmere! Probably two and maybe up to £70 each?

Who's doing good knits?

Please don't underestimate good old Tesco or Asda
I've had some lovely knitwear items from both recently , can't wait for the weather to change
Failing that you can't beat good old Marks?

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 14:05

I never think about Marks!

Hmmm. Just had a look on their website - I look for dresses there but never other things (apart from food!)

The only ones I like are pure wool or cashmere and I won't be able to keep them alive!

I know you said no cashmere but the M&S cashmere jumpers are so nice and soft. I have about 4 colours and rotate to avoid washing too much. They've survived a wool cycle in the machine.

goose1964 · 10/09/2021 17:07

Any good, it's only review says it's cream rather than white www.mandco.com/cable-knit-jumper-white/1093487.html?dwvar_1093487_color=0030&cgid=10010030#start=20

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 18:21

Ooh that's nice. I haven't had anything from there.

Other stories have lovely stuff, always wash well.

I'm super into my knitwear!!

Lovemusic33 · 10/09/2021 20:15

I have shrunk many items of knitwear, straggly enough the only ones I haven’t shrunk are from TU (Sainsbury’s).

Lovemusic33 · 10/09/2021 20:23

“Strangely”

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 20:30

Thank you!

& other stories are really beautiful but a bit small/ short for my long body

I've got a jumper from harkel that is lovely!

Seainasive · 10/09/2021 21:14

Uniqlo extra fine merino jumpers are lovely and wash well

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 21:16

I've wondered about Harkel. I see them on FB.

M&S cashmere is really good quality. You won't ruin it. Just wash on 15 minute or worn once only or silk/delicates cycle (not wool cycle) on cold or 20 degrees. Gentle spin and then dry on a rack.

MeredithGreyishblue · 10/09/2021 21:29

I was thinking of M&S cashmere for my mum, mil & grandma for Christmas. If it washes, all the better!

OP posts:
LeonardLikesThisPost · 10/09/2021 21:47

I've got loads of wool and cashmere, machine washed it all and never ruined anything, so I wouldn't rule it out on those grounds.

MeredithGreyishblue · 11/09/2021 22:52

Sainsbury was a hit! Got a couple. Saw a few more I liked but not in my size so I'm off to the bigger one on Monday.

Maybe I will give myself another chance with a cashmere for Christmas! I'll take all your advice

Other stories have some amazing knitwear. I’m a cardi person and have bought some beautiful stuff in the sale. I know you said you have a long body but it’s possible to tuck them into jeans - the stuff I have is quite stretchy.

Knittingnanny · 12/09/2021 21:46

I second the Uniqlo extra fine merino jumpers. They go in the washing machine and don’t need ironing. I do wish they made them in brighter colours though

DGFB · 12/09/2021 22:15

M&S cashmere does wash well on my wool cycle. But I always go up one size when I buy it to allow for shrinkage over time. I love all mine!
