Smart flat shoes?

KidneyBeans · 10/09/2021 08:01

So I have a Big New Job and need to look smartish - not legal/city smart but at least vaguely grown up.

I'm ok clothing-wise I think but am struggling with shoes.

I generally wear dresses (smartish wrap/shift dresses) or Boden Richmond trousers with a top, but am struggling for footwear.

I have several pairs of ankle boots of various styles but tend to favour biker/chunkier styles which aren't often appropriate with office dresses. Ditto trainers. Dislike Chelsea boots. Think I need something less clumpy anyway.

In summer I wear ballet flats but am struggling for autumn.
No heels please.

@JaninaDuszejko

If you aren't keen on lace ups or loafers then you're looking for pointy flats probably. More substantial than ballet pumps but still very feminine. What's your budget? They are expensive but I love Rogue Matilda, and their laceups are very feminine.
Oh! I should have said. Not pointy either.

Told you I was awkward

Ooh! Like these very much, just think they might be a bit too 'out there'

[quote londonmummy1966]Some less severe brogues might work

Yes they're much more my style - thanks.
Love the turquoise embassy London ones though they'll go with nothing!

Anything else along these lines would be very welcome

I have similar issues, OP. I can't get on with black brogues at all. To me they just look like sensible school shoes your mum used to make you wear! Don't like loafers, especially tassel ones.

I've never found ballet flats that suited my feet, until I discovered these which are a bit chunkier in the sole.

KidneyBeans · 11/09/2021 07:50

Thanks @londonmummy1966

I've ordered these embassylondon.co.uk/collections/sale/products/brick-lane-dark-brown

In the very sensible and bargainous brown (though I love the yellow!) and I've bookmarked the turquoise brick lane boots for when I can justify yet more ankle boot purchasing.

I'll try them in with some of my autumn work outfits and see how they look though if anyone has any links to brogues as part of an outfit/style bloggers who wear brogues could you please link?
Thanks all!

I love these - tan brogues are great. I agree re comments about not being able to wear (normal) black brogues, they're just too dull. I've got tan, patent black, oxblood, and pewter ones 😄.

I wear all of them (including the tan ones) with opaque tights and cord or velvet short skirts.

Gufo · 11/09/2021 09:04

Can't make the link work but google Hobbs Ottilie fawn brogues. The Clarks ones are comfy but made me feel sturdy and matronly.

Edbr1 · 11/09/2021 09:30

These might be an option on non rainy days and outside of winter: www.avarcapons.co.uk/product-page/marsalla-tabac

Pigtailsandall · 11/09/2021 10:01

I LOVE brogues, but every single pair I've ever had gives me heel blisters. I think the leather in them is often so stiff and you can't exactly lip on socks... what do brogue-wearers wear with them (if anything)

ProfessorInkling · 11/09/2021 10:19

I've ordered these after @londonmummy1966 linked them above
embassylondon.co.uk/collections/womens/products/vivienne-black-flower

I will wear with tights and plain-ish dresses (eg denim shirt dress) or ribbed black socks and trousers. I cannot wait.

I didn't need shoes before this thread Grin

stillcrazyafterall · 11/09/2021 10:32

I have these from Deichmann - in 3 colours, grey, burgundy and "pink". I wear them with skirts and trousers and always people comment on them, they look great for low heeled shoes.

KidneyBeans · 11/09/2021 13:32

@ProfessorInkling I'm glad you've benefitted too

@Pigtailsandall I have the same problem with lots of shoes so hope these will be ok! I've just broken in a pair of Tmberland boots - love how they look but my goodness the blisters!

I've just bought Clarks Baillie Brogues after trying them on with the Hamble Oak ones. The Baillie ones were so much more comfortable and a bit more interesting with the stripe.

Have your shoes arrived @KidneyBeans?

Mine were delivered this morning - the black flowery brogues. Oh god I love them. I want more.

londonmummy1966 · 15/09/2021 19:30

Just checking in to see how the Embassy brogues are going as I'm still eyeing up the turquoise ones.....

Snoopsnoggysnog · 15/09/2021 20:10

Thanks for this thread. I am not keen on brogues either. But I like the Schuh ones linked up thread and also going to order the M&S ballet flats.

I bought some loafer type shoes from LK Bennett in the summer in a dark gold and I absolutely love them. They’re not on the website any more but I think they’re similar to the Tina style on there atm. Which I don’t like as I think they look like slippers in black suede.

Those turquoise ones look fab! I'm actually working away at the moment so my neighbour will take my parcel in but she's not messaged to say it's arrived yet Sad

@ProfessorInkling did you get a message alert or email or anything about the delivery?

Thanks but I need shoes and dislike Chelsea boots

Tried fitflop? I've got two pairs and they're so comfy and light. I can't get on with Hamble Oaks - I think they make me look like a bloke.

Oddly, the ones I get the most compliments on are cheapies from Shoezone. Smile

I have these in salted caramel and the are beautiful.

ProfessorInkling · 16/09/2021 08:24

I got a text from DPD on Tuesday morning saying they were out for delivery. Hope you aren’t waiting long!

ProfessorInkling · 16/09/2021 08:24

@KidneyBeans meant to tag you in that.

ProfessorInkling · 16/09/2021 08:26

@Disfordarkchocolate

Oh my god I need these too. Mumsnet is so bad for me.
BippityBoppity87 · 16/09/2021 10:53

@Disfordarkchocolate Those are lovely! I would buy them, but my bank balance wouldn't thank me haha. I'll just have to admire them from a distance for now
