Blue Shampoo

Hello,

What's the best blue shampoo for sorting out brassy/orange tones?

I've tried Fanola and Osmo but neither were any good and both dried my hair out drastically. I've heard Fudge is good but online reviews are very mixed.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

I've got the Bleach London "Silver" and "Fade to Grey"
Shampoo+Conditioner

The silver is a proper blue, stains the shower curtain(washes off thankfully) which does make my going grey/beassy ends hair brighter

Fade to Grey does diddly squat but smells nice

I bought Redken brownlights recently - which is good but it's the first one I have tried & so nothing to compare it to. I use gloves to apply it... it's very pigmented. The smell is fine & hair feels nice after.

Schwarzkopf no more yellow. Use it in salon, it's fabulous.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 08/09/2021 22:19

Charles worthington one from boots. I think it’s called colour plex. It’s amazing.

StillSmallVoice · 08/09/2021 22:27

I have a L'Oréal one which was recommended by Sali Hughes. Strangers have complimented me on my hair

GreekOlive · 08/09/2021 22:56

John Frieda shampoo and conditioner turns my hands blue but keeps the orange away. Recommended.

ChaToilLeam · 08/09/2021 23:00

The Wella SP Silver Blond one is pricey but brilliant. The L’Oreal one was good too.

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 08/09/2021 23:23

I love the shrine toning drops- they do an ash blonde or white blonde. You mix a couple of drops with your normal conditioner and leave it on for a few minutes and boom. Done. Purple/ blue shampoo leaves my hair like wool but because this is basically normal conditioner it doesn't dry it out. You can also add a drop to your shampoo or mix it up with water and use as a leave in toning spray. A bottle lasts for ages- I think they say about 30 applications depending on how many drops you use. X

RacheyCat · 08/09/2021 23:29

The Shrine drops are brilliant. I wish I could buy them overseas.

Bleach do a good shampoo called Smoky. I apply it to dry hair like dye and then shampoo it out with a gentler purple shampoo. The Smoky is so harsh on the hair that it's best not to lather it even slightly. It's more ash-toned than a regular purple shampoo.

I use Redken brownlights and find it good.

I like Matrix brass off. Doesn't stain my hands too much and works well

Girlintheframe · 09/09/2021 07:40

Aveda blue Malva is very good

cannaethink · 09/09/2021 16:36

Is your hair dark? If so, Matrix dark envy mask is awesome. It’s green, and will dye lighter hair green so you need to have quite dark hair!

AllTheBs · 09/09/2021 19:23

Oooooft, thanks all. Lots of suggestions!

@cannaethink yeah my hair is very dark! Just had balayage done and it's not lifted well 😳 it could be worse but can tell that after a couple of washes the toner will be gone and I'll be left with very orangey looking highlights 🙈

The hairdresser couldn't recommend a specific shampoo 🤨 but did say because my hair is so dark I'd be better with a blue/no orange rather than a silver/no yellow one.

What do people do if they need one to neutralise yellow on highlights and warmth in brown?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2021 08:08

U haven't tried it but its often recommended

Fanola No Orange Shampoo

Wole · 11/09/2021 08:19

Whats the difference between blue and purple?

Nitgel · 11/09/2021 08:23

Def matrix brass off. Someone on here recommended to me last year and it's really good.

AllTheBs · 11/09/2021 12:54

@wole blue is the opposite of orange so counteracts the brassy colour in darker hair whereas purple is the opposite of yellow so does the same for lighter/blonde hair.

@Wole

Whats the difference between blue and purple?
Blue neutralizes orange and purple neutralizes yellow.

The bleach london fade to grey is NOT for orange /yellow, it is a grey toner!
If you have light hair is makes your hair a beautiful grey colour, exactly as it states…

MrMeSeeks · 11/09/2021 14:17

Get an actual toner.
Jerome russell are good.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2021 19:47

I have dark hair with maybe 40% grey . Bit brassy at the ends but it needs cut
The Bleach Fade to Grey shampoo/conditioner does nought , I had hoped it would pick up on my grey hairs ( light and porous ) but nope
I bought the FTG toner set and tried a patch test and strand test .
Absolutely nought .
No colour change at all , and this is undyed very light hair .

I was going to use it ( I'd bought it anyway) but its a hour of my life I won't get back .

tidesley · 11/09/2021 20:50

I've been using the Lee Stafford Toning Treatment from Boots. Theres a purple one (purple jar) and a blue one (silver jar)

The ends of my hair are yellow and the roots are orange, the yellow bothers me the most so I use the purple one. It says leave on for 1-5 mins but I leave it on for an hour!
