Can I steam this (Dry Clean Only) dress?

It is 93% Silk, 7% Elastane (floor length gown)

I have a hand steamer, but don't want to do something stupid.

Apologies if this is a stupid question.

Hand steamer as in steam cleaner or clothes steamer to get wrinkles out?
Not sure I’d risk it tbh but info here

Yep, like a plug in steam machine. Iron substitute.

Is it fine or heavy fabric? Could you test it on a kit too noticeable section and see how the fabric handles it? If you drop a spot of water on it, does the texture change or does it just look wet?
Not sure I would risk leaving a watermark!

Not too noticeable…

Anordinarymum · 07/09/2021 22:26

Honestly? Don't. It will shrink

You can steam it, you just need to take care.
Probably best to steam inside out, keep the steamer a few inches away from the fabric, it shouldn't touch the garment at any point.

In my teens I had a job in a premium ladies wear shop and every item arrived folded and had to be steamed before going on the shop floor. I must have steamed tens of thousands of pounds worth of silk, velvet etc and never damaged anything.
