Recommendations for a designer cross body handbag

Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a cross body bag for everyday use. All my handbags are top handle or shoulder bags, and now I am pushing a pram around, I need a cross body one for ease.

Can anyone recommend one?

From the top of my head, I already have a few Pradas, a YSL, a LV, a Mulberry, a Burberry, an Aspinal, Coach and Marc Jacobs so ideally want another designer, but can’t see any that catch my attention.

My budget is around £1,200. The one I’ve seen so far that I love is the YSL Lou camera bag, in dark grey and gold, but I also have the YSL Kate and it feels too similar, but that’s the style I’m looking for - simple but with some detailing, so it can go with everything and be used everyday. Any thoughts?

I only really wear small shoulder bags and recently bought this as a wedding present to myself Grin uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/deauville-mini-monogram-nvprod2400104v

I love it and it’s perfect size for phone/essentials while out with the pram etc

I make my own bags so they're all bespoke designer. 😂

Gucci Soho - use mine loads.

Thank you! Some good suggestions! Will head to Selfridges this afternoon to see the different bags!

Bit over budget but I like the LV Capucines bag. Let us know what you get, I'm on a shopping ban due to house renovations so I'll have to live vicariously!

I've got the Gucci Marmont Petite Matelassé in black and taupe. They are bulletproof and classic. I give my black one a pretty hard time and it's still perfect. www.gucci.com/uk/en_gb/pr/women/handbags/shoulder-bags-for-women/gg-marmont-small-matelasse-shoulder-bag-p-447632DTD1T5729

I got a Mulberry Alexa recently, and it's just perfect for me! Large enough to hold everything I want, and take a water bottle if necessary.

I have it in buffalo leather and it's beautifully soft.

So after a visit to the various concessions at Selfridges my thoughts are:

  1. The Gucci Marmont seems ideal. Its very very light and the black would be great, but I’m concerned it will be too harsh when I wear lighter colours. The tan feels too common (I have memories of always carrying tan handbags 15 years ago!) and the dusty pink, which the woman in store describe as grey, is actually more towards pink so could clash with what I’m wearing.
  1. Went to YSL to view the Lou and whilst I love YSL bags, it felt too showy to have an everyday bag that has YSL in gold on it, so that rules out YSL, unless I see the camera bag without the metalwork - they didn’t have any in store.
  1. The Celine Classic in khaki caught my eye. I know it’s out of budget but I can ask DH to make it a joint gift to me (upcoming anniversary), but I feel it’s a tad aging? I’m early 30s but I feel it’s more for a woman in 40s?

Annoyingly, the one that I loved the most is the Mulberry small Amberley in charcoal grey, but, you know, it’s Mulberry.

So the Gucci Marmont seems to be in the lead. Ideally I want a grey bag - that will go with everything, whether I’m wearing light or dark colours, but they don’t do grey! Will keep browsing but at least I’m making progress.

@MsHedgehog I’ve got the pinky/taupe marmont and honestly it goes with so much more than you think. It’s really a neutral colour. I use the black one only in winter really, the pink I used in all other seasons.

I have the small Amberley in black as well OP - love it. But because of the shape of it, it's not quite as roomy as some other bags the same size.
