Short People Jeans / Ankle Gapless?

(Sorry in advance for another jeans post!)

Has anyone got any jeans suggestions for a short leg and an ankle gap?

I'm loving the return of the high waist / mom style but I have always had trouble with cropped trousers - partly because of my 28" leg and partly because of my skinny ankles! Short styles often either fit me as regular ones should or finish at a very unflattering point - just floating above my shoe and making me look more like I've just outgrown a child's pair of trousers!

I do love the 'ankle gap' look though and would love to make it work. Does anyone have any specific jeans suggestions that might flatter a shorter leg? Thanks!

Og, and I know rolling up is the obvious answer (and what I'd usually do) but I can't make it work on mom jeans / tapered legs!

I get them from H&M or Asos Design they seem to be the only ones that fit xx

I’ve just ordered some straight leg jeans from M&S in “extra short” so I’ll report back - I’ve only ever had one pair of jeans that allowed an ankle gap in an unrolled state and they were from H&M years ago. Inevitably not replicated since then!

TomorrowSomething · 05/09/2021 14:13

Thank you @cultkid - I'll have a look. No H&M near me and I've never worn ASOS so I expect ordering online will be an endless process of trial and error but might be worth a try!

I didn't realise extra short was a thing - that's interesting! I tried M&S last week but I suppose they wouldn't have them in smaller stores. Please do report back - M&S are one of the few shops where I'm confident about my size!

I’ve got Mint Velvet Slim Selvedge in short.

I’m 5’3, but you could roll the bottom more?

Size down if you’re between sizes, they’re generous!

RustyBear · 05/09/2021 14:34

M&S do 'ankle-grazer' jeans, which might suit you; they also sometimes have 7/8 jeans - I actually have a pair of black 7/8 jeans in Long, which are normal length on my short legs, but if you had them in short/extra short they might fit the bill.

VanCleefArpels · 05/09/2021 14:59

M&S short ankle grazers are just normal length on me (5 foot and a smidge) 🙄😐

cultkid · 05/09/2021 18:59

What waist do you wear I can show you how the jeans look on my legs?
HM app is great

littlespeckledfrog · 05/09/2021 19:38

I have the same problem and I've cut off the bottom of my mom jeans. It does leave a raw edge but lots of jeans seem to come with that these days anyway... alternatively I guess you could get them professionally altered?

TomorrowSomething · 05/09/2021 19:45

Yep! This is exactly the problem but I was intrigued to hear about the extra short ones.

Does anyone happen to know what New Look petite is like?

There's an app?! Grin Tbh that never even occured to me - I'm so used to buying in person or scouring eBay and I've not needed jeans for two or three years. I'll check it out.

My only local dry cleaner doesn't offer this (I'm in the arse end of nowhere!) but maybe I could find someone who will. It's definitely a thought.

Levi do different leg lengths on many styles. I buy 26 inch leg.

Sooverthemill · 05/09/2021 21:20

Oh I am 5.1

Heffapotamus · 05/09/2021 21:24

Asda - short.

PoloMintPatty · 06/09/2021 06:53

@TomorrowSomething New Look
Petite work for me. I am 5 foot with same inside leg length and totally recognise what you're describing.

Dellabob123 · 06/09/2021 09:10

Same issue here. I’m 5ft and love the look too. I bought the petite straight ones from next and they are beautiful. Perfect ankle gap and all in proportion. Definitely a must for us shorties!

Tiddleandplonk · 06/09/2021 12:20

I just roll.mine up. Even short is too long.
Hope u find somerhing
What boot or shoe is good for the gap look please if you are petite .. as i cant seem to achieve it as the jean goes long and the boot high on me.. ? Also .. does it not feel chilly..?! Hate cold weather clothes!!!

Greyhare · 06/09/2021 15:44

Petite length trousers and Jeans are getting longer and longer, Next and M&S used to be the perfect length but now are stupidly long, Tu are ok and some River Island Jeans have been ok and short enough, but I now just take them up myself.

Divebar2021 · 06/09/2021 16:15

Find someone to do alterations - they make such a difference to clothes that are slightly “off” in annoying ways. I’ve had jeans taken up, taken in at the waist or tapered slightly. I’ve just had some dresses taken in and the shoulders adjusted on one. I have lobbed the ends of jeans off myself but I don’t always want a raw edge.
