Flat shoes for autumn

roaringwater · 05/09/2021 09:56

I'm looking for inspiration for flat shoes to wear for work in autumn.

I've lived in white trainers all summer but can't wear trainers for work.

Whatever I buy needs to go with 7/8 slim trousers and with items such as knee length casual dresses. Not really bothered about colour.

I have a few different variations on a ballet pump, including pointy ones, but I'm on my feet all day so end up with them hurting. I have a pair of Hamble Oaks but I don't love them (maybe I need something chunkier??)

Help meeeeee

Hi. Great question. Would Chelsea boots work for some outfits (I wear with knee length skirts/dresses and opaque tights) sort of this this (not me in photo!!).

I have hamble oaks too, and a chunkier pair from Clarks in a dark claret patent leather which I love, picked up from the outlet shop.
I also have a pair of slip on leopard print Clarks loafers which (despite someone saying looked like something Theresa May would wear Shock) I really like with 3/4 wide trousers and also with cropped jeans.
M&S have a brilliant pair of brogue style Lace up/side zip chunky ankle boots which I'll wear with opaque tights and skirts/dresses going into autumn and winter.

Yes - I should have mentioned that I do have (and wear) Chelsea boots with dresses / skirts.

However, I'm not sure whether they work with 7/8 trousers??? (Happy for people to say 'yes, don't be daft, of course they do').

Also, I think the Chelsea boots look great with opaques but not sure about while it's still bare-leg season.

You wouldn't have a link, perchance?

Actually don't worry I think I have found them - very nice. Would wear those 🙂

I like this style of chunky loafer. Though classic loafers are also great for Autumn/Winter Chunky Loafer

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/09/2021 10:39

What do you all wear with this sort of shoe whrn you're wearing 7/8 trousers? I've tried the sort of socks you don't see but they never stay on my feet.

SummaLuvin · 05/09/2021 10:44

I get on well with Primark "sport footies" they are little breathable socks (almost slightly fishnet-like), they cut fairly low across the top of the food so good with loafers unlike traditional trainer socks. Make sure you buy the right size though, I'm a 4 and accidentally bought 7-10 once, and these slip down but right size don't.

TakingTheLowRoad · 05/09/2021 12:49

I bought these yesterday:

I am chunky of leg/ankle so they balance this out. Also I am still wearing skinny jeans as any wide leg style are too high waisted and the back I end up looking like I have acres of arse. They work with slim leg chinos too.

Doc Martin chunky loafer

Or the deichman £25 rip off version (Dd has these for school & says they are very comfortable) also available in patent

Ok so my learning from today is that if I want to be like the cool kids, I need a chunkier loafer.

I do, however, have freakishly skinny legs (not a stealth boast, 'tis the only part of me that's skinny). Can I wear chunky loafers without looking like Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl?

Longer Boots with a slim ankle work well with 7/8 trousers. The type made of fabric / faux suede if you know what I mean? I’ve got a great pair that I got from H&M years ago with a low block heel which come out every year they are so useful

goose1964 · 05/09/2021 15:30

I think these would work. They also didn't send my heel into a blister panic like it does when looking at loafers www.asos.com/kickers/kickers-klio-chunky-block-heel-lace-up-shoes-in-black-suede/prd/23504274?colourwayid=60488804&SearchQuery=ladies+fashion

What about these?

roaringwater · 05/09/2021 16:38

@VanCleefArpels - it's the height though - I only wear flats.

@Pieceofpurplesky - FitFlops are super comfortable but the print might be quite hard to coordinate with other items??

Black trousers, plain green top?

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/09/2021 16:59

They do have them in different colours too! I have them in black and like the snakeskin ones!

NeverRTFT · 05/09/2021 17:02

I have these

www.jonesbootmaker.com/products/blenheim-penny-loafers-barbr33513-319-415

Nude colour so elongates the legs and won't look to heavy in your slender pins.
SO COMFY.

I also struggle with how to sock my feet for loafers. I wear those weird long socks made out of tights material but hate them.

HermioneGrunger · 05/09/2021 17:46

I wear chunky or flat form loafers with 7/8 trousers and wear M&S ultra low footsies so nothing shows. Clarks have some really comfy modern loafers.

breadwidow · 05/09/2021 19:49

I wear Chelsea boots with slightly cropped trousers most of autumn / spring. I wear with trainer socks so there's a bit of ankle showing, so is a bit chilly in the dead of winter, but far warmer than ballet flats.
