Waxy ears.. how to clean? Sorry - not sure if this is the right place to post!

I've just discovered my teen daughter doesn't use her iPod buds because she has waxy/gunky ears and is terrified to clean them....

I've always used moistened cotton buds and been gentle and careful but she's been scared off these by her school nurse.

What do you recommend?

DH had very painful ears after a flight to visit friends overseas, but a $25 appointment with friend's doctor sorted it out in minutes. Micro-suction audiology.

Ear wax problems seem to run in families. I am having to speak VERY CLEARLY at my FiL, who is visiting this week. He is planning to pay Specsavers, whereas DH favours the Amazon spiral thing.

I suppose the important thing is to sort it out properly and then help her to prevent the problem recurring.
