Clinique Black Honey

God help me, I’ve been drawn into an IG trend. Basically this product is having some revival online and I’ve seen it has sold out! Is it as good as everyone says? Apparently works on all skin tones and lasts nicely, but don’t want to spend £20 on a silly fad. Any info much appreciated!

God I remember this from eons ago. I never liked it, always looked blotchy on me.

Nitgel · 02/09/2021 12:36

I just bought a replacement I really like it as its subtle. Had to get direct from clique as couldnt find in any shops in West End

tofuschnitzel · 02/09/2021 12:38

Burt's Bees make a tinted balm which is very similar, and significantly cheaper.

EccentricaGalumbits · 02/09/2021 12:40

I bought it during its last revivaĺ when it was touted as the Your Lips But Better that suited everyone.

Well it doesn't suit me and I'm not that weird looking! It's too cool and pink for my light olive skin and overall warm/autumn look.

I can just about get away with a light first coat but it gets brighter as I reapply during the day until it's quite a raspberry shade.

Nitgel · 02/09/2021 12:40

What's IG?

poorbuthappy · 02/09/2021 12:43

Yes I've seen the Burts Bee dupe recommendation too.

I've also just had the Glossier lip stain for my birthday which is lovely - but haven't tried the other 2 so can't compare. But sounds similar!

CorrBlimeyGG · 02/09/2021 12:43

I can vouch for the Burts Bees dupe, red dahlia, the rose and hibiscus ones are nice too. Amazon sell them for around £5. It's more moisturising than the Clinique one.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 02/09/2021 12:49

Ah the Glossier ones were really dry/patchy on me, will give Burts Bees a go! “IG” is Instagram and I’m a sucker for the new thing that’ll change my life and make me look like Scarlett johanssen :)

I used to buy them on eBay, not sure if you can still get them on there? I still have one on the go.

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/09/2021 13:53

I wear the burts bees fig which is very like a glossy version of mac twig #90s

Mariell · 02/09/2021 14:01

Awful on me. There was a much nicer chubby stick they used to make that wire better.

My favourite tinted lip balm, and I've tried them all (or at least that's what it feels like....)
whatswithtodaytoday · 02/09/2021 14:14

I like it - used to wear it all the time - but it doesn't last on me, and it's quite drying.

Dragonglass · 02/09/2021 14:52

I like the colour on me but it doesn't last very long at all, so I won't be buying another one. Especially at that price.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/09/2021 18:00

I still have one from about 20 years ago! It's a bit too dark on me, I wear it sometimes over Carmex lip balm. The Burt's Bees stuff just flakes off me, for some reason.

Hopdathelf · 02/09/2021 18:49

I found it very drying.

There is a NARS balm lipstick that comes up very similar on me. Wicked Ways I think.

JaninesEyePatch · 02/09/2021 18:50

I bought into this fad years ago. Doesn't suit me at all - made me look like a zombie. Definitely try before you buy!!!

nahnahnahnahnahyeh · 02/09/2021 18:53

Is it back in stock now? I was told last year it was discontinued!

ActonSquirrel · 02/09/2021 19:01

Boots had 15% off online clinique last I looked yesterday. Not sure they still have what you want though

Geamhradh · 02/09/2021 20:25

Black Honey was part of Clinique's Almost Lipstick range, so effectively a balm. The range came out early-mid 90s so hardly a fad! BH is the only one they still produce as it proved so popular. I preferred a different pinker one. I still have a BH but agree it probably doesn't suit everyone.

Geamhradh · 02/09/2021 20:26

You can usually get it with 20% off directly from Clinique online.
CosmicComfort · 02/09/2021 20:30

I like it but don’t think it is any better than burts bees red dahlia which I use all the time. It’s so much cheaper!

TheWeeDonkey · 02/09/2021 20:37

Well I like Black Honey, but I also like the chubby sticks Fabulous Fig...and Burts Bees Red Dahlia.....and Burts Bees Fig too....and Maybelline Baby Lips...and Dr Pawpaw. I think I might have a problem Blush

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 02/09/2021 20:40

Black Honey is fantastic. I've worn it religiously since the early 90s.
I thought it was so great when I first discovered it, I bought it for all my friends and yes, it did match all skin colours & tones (including a redhead friend which amazed her!).
It's expensive but I get it from John Lewis with gift vouchers.

(At the age of 49, I am inadvertently wearing a lippie that is trending on IG!
I better get pouting & posting)
