Washing hair every day!

Beautifulday345 · 01/09/2021 08:51

Every single morning my hair is completely unmanageable and needs washing! No matter what I do I always wake up with sort of matted, rough, crazy hair that takes longer to try and tame without washing than it does WITH washing, but still, don’t have time for either really! Anyone else have this problem? Have any amazing tips ? Thanks

I washed my hair in conditioner a few times when I've run out of shampoo and it does
Not work! My hair never looks clean.

Susannahmoody · 01/09/2021 15:58

Another chip pan head here who basically is resigned to washing daily. As a pp said, I hate my hair the second day I.e.50% of the time otherwise

Confused
BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/09/2021 15:59

I wash my hair every day. It's curly and as dry as a bone. All the co-washing and plopping stuff didn't work on it. I like the feeling of a clean scalp. It doesn't take long to wash and I don't dry it; I just scrunch it and leave it.

Beautifulday345 · 01/09/2021 16:01

@BobbinThreadbare123 I wish I could just wash and leave, that would be amazing!! But my curls are pathetic. Not quite straight, not quite curly with an extra splash of frizz 🤣

What about if you plait it overnight OP?

NotMyCat · 01/09/2021 17:25

Protecting it overnight really helps
Satin or silk pillowcase
Sleep bonnet or a buff

Anordinarymum · 01/09/2021 19:21

@fuzzymoomin

I'm interested in this co-wash thing, never heard of this before! My scalp gets greasy by day 2 and water alone won't remove the grease though?
I use ASIAM to Co-wash. I only wash twice a week. My hair has never felt so nice. You have to massage your scalp for at least 60 seconds but it works. Shampoo strips the oils from your hair. This does not. I buy mine on ebay. It's about £8.45 and lasts for ages
Cornwallnewbie · 01/09/2021 19:40

@Beautifulday345 I think we are hair twins, i am well known for my ludicrous bed head. Used to be greasy too but less so as Ive got older.

Angryfrommanchester1 · 01/09/2021 19:57

Co washing didn’t work for me. My scalp felt awful and my hair just wasn’t clean at all.
Apparently you need to really scrub at the roots to disperse the grease and muck and I just CBA trying to get it right, having dirty looking hair, so went back to shampoo (every 2 days).

idontlikealdi · 01/09/2021 22:21

I used to wash mine every day and it needed it, it hit greasy so quickly. During lockdown with no gym I let it go to every other day. It was a bit itchy for a week. Then I let it go to washing every third day. It's a revelation - even now I'm back at the gym a bit if dry shampoo can get me through and my scalp is no where near as greasy.

I have very long hairdo washing it every day and then drying was a pain in the arse.

Branster · 01/09/2021 22:27

Not the most glamour suggestion, but try brushing you hair before going to bed and tie a large silk scarf around your head then go to sleep. See if it makes any difference? It might slip off but maybe you can find a way to keep it on most of the night. Or cover your pillow with a silk scarf and see if that makes a difference before investing in a silk pillowcase.

TuftyRusty · 02/09/2021 07:37

@Beautifulday345 have you tried a silk hair protector like this?

www.cultbeauty.co.uk/silke-london-the-silke-hair-wrap-the-kate.html

Other companies do them too. I’ve got one and it stops my hair getting knotty and leaves it much smoother when I wake up.

Haywirecity · 02/09/2021 07:44

I have chin length hair. It leams towards being greasy at roots and dry at the ends if I don't wash it every day. But I can't wash it every day because it has a toner on it. So, I sleep on a satin pillow (silk is cruel) and when I dry it, I put light amount of argon oil on my damp hair before drying, then when it's dry, I run the slightest amount of styling putty on my hands through my hair, scrunching it. It seems to make it thicker and it keeps the style for the next day.

Bex268 · 02/09/2021 07:46

Dry shampoo changed my life.

Haywirecity · 02/09/2021 07:48

To add, my hair is wavy but not in a good way. It can go a but frizzy. So I straighten it and scrunch the paste through to make sure it's all coated and it also makes the hair look and feel thicker.

violetbunny · 02/09/2021 07:50

I would try a keratin treatment at the salon. It should help to smooth everything out so that in the morning you can just wash and go. I've had them a couple of times before, ahead of travelling abroad to hot climates so don't want to be drying and straightening in the heat.

StarlightLady · 02/09/2021 08:38

I wash mine everyday in the hot weather. Otherwise every second day. As another poster mentioned, l always brush my hair before l go to bed.

Aside from that, l change brands of shampoo and conditioner regularly. I find that works better for me than sticking with one.

NeedWineNow · 02/09/2021 08:44

@violetbunny my hairdresser keeps urging me to try a keratin treatment. Can I ask how you get on with them? Do you need special shampoo and conditioner, and what about if you swim a lot, does that affect it?

AlrightThereSkippy · 02/09/2021 08:51

Yes, I think a keratin treatment might work for you too op.

You could also go the other way and try curly girl. I don't like it, as I actually love washing my hair, but since you don't love washing yours, it might work quite well for you Smile

violetbunny · 02/09/2021 08:52

@NeedWineNow It does wash out over time much like hair colour, so I'd have thought that regular swimming would affect it?

The hairdresser said ideally you should have an appropriate shampoo and conditioner although I didn't bother the 2nd time around and didn't really notice a difference, I work in marketing myself so am always sceptical of such claims! I normally use salon hair products anyway so nothing that would be too harsh.

It definitely makes your hair a lot smoother and more shiny, mine isn't too wavy to begin with anyway but looked quite straight after the treatments, especially in the few weeks after I got it done. You can't wash your hair for the first few days after it's applied which for me was probably the biggest downside as mine gets greasy so fast. Both times I got it done on a Thursday so i didn't have to go into work with greasy hair Grin

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 02/09/2021 08:53

I'm the same. My hair is greasy and I can't do anything with it if I don't wash it. I tried to leave it once and managed half a day. It itches and I can't style it otherwise. My hairdresser told me to leave it a couple of days but I just can't.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 02/09/2021 09:03

I've washed my hair every day of my life for as long as I can remember...it's fine and extremely soft. About a year ago I started washing every second day without shampoo...just getting hair wet under shower. It has made such a difference. Sometimes I can do this for 2 days before going back to shampoo. Still have to blow dry but I do think it has improved my hair.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 02/09/2021 11:23

I've had to wash my hair daily since I was 15. It's dry and unruly otherwise. I have maybe one day a year when I wake up day two and it looks ok and I regard that as a miracle.
If I'm not going out anywhere or seeing anyone I don't bother but those days are also few and far between.
I once had it keratin treated which helped marginally but nowhere near as much as I hoped.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 02/09/2021 11:23

I've tried co washing a silk pillow cases/turbans. No change at all

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/09/2021 18:56

You could try a good dry shampoo. Philip Kingsley One More day is good (but expensive) and Batiste for Volume is very good too and much cheaper. Use exactly per instructions, it's easy to use too much. Shake can very hard.
