I've been taking cod liver oil

Cod live oil for me too. I also take Astaxanthin which is made from the sea plants that apparantly give fish their nutrients, so you're kind of cutting out the middle man. Also good for vegetarians/ vegans. Of all the supplements I take -and there are many! - this I think is the game changer for skin quality. My skin is definitely plumper and more hydrated and even takes on a slightly tanned look with these. They're supposed to help hair and joints too, but I take other things for these, so can't say for sure if they have made a difference.

My old boss used to take a spoonful of cod liver oil every morning (he’d done it since a child). He said that since that was possibly the worst thing he did each day it was nice to get the ‘worst thing’ over and done with by breakfast time 😂

I take the capsules to avoid that horror. Though I did read that if you broke them open you could apply directly to your skin and it was great for wrinkles.... Suffice to say I could barely be in a room with myself for days (oh, how it lingered!)and no one else would come near me. Except the cat who wouldn't leave me alone.
PandoraP · 01/09/2021 12:58

🤢not sure about getting it over by breakfast time as it would repeat on me all day. I prefer capsules!

KittenKong · 01/09/2021 13:00

5128gap - oh can you imagine the smell?! 😳

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

I have chin hairs but very few moustache hair, attractiveHmm I keep dithering about getting a Phillips Lumea thingy.
I have both. Gosh, I am attractive. i have got a device similar to Philips Lumea but it can't keep up. Also with my failing eyesight, I often can't see the tiny hairs.

Well, I'm worried about my pubic hair - I seem to be going patchy down there but not on the bikini line where it would actually be helpful. Does vagifem cause this?
My mum swears by good quality vitamin B, vitamin D and magnesium supplements. Plus a good probiotic. She's got me on so much stuff I rattle, but I trust her. She's the sort of woman who reads medical journals for a bit of light entertainment.

Llareggub · 02/09/2021 00:09

I’ve always had really dry legs. Since starting HRT four months ago I’ve noticed that for the first time my legs are nice and soft without any effort on my part. So that’s a positive.

I’ve got so used to plucking my hairy chin (PCOS) I can’t go to asleep without it. Maybe it’s meditative.

This happens as part of menopause . It looks very ageing I think and had it all taken off for a while . It actually looks a bit better now but I hate the grey 🙄
KittenKong · 02/09/2021 11:26

My hair is terribly dry. Looks terrible. Bah.

MrsMaizel · 02/09/2021 11:46

I'm not sure how many of you are on HRT . I am and it relieves so many symptoms . In many ways I have never felt better .

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 02/09/2021 12:05

I had no idea that my watery eyes could be peri menopause symptoms. I thought I had developed an allergy to something!

I'm 42, my hair is probably 50% the volume it used to be. Luckily it used to be very thick so it isn't too bad but I am really worried about losing more. However it is sprouting from my face at great speed and my thighs are hairier than DHs.

I am putting on weight and can't seem to shift it no matter how hard I try. My boobs are MASSIVE and I am getting a belly.

Then there's the anxiety, at random and for no reason. Oh and itchy skin, especially downstairs.

My periods are still fairly regular still though.

Getting old is shit.

cantbebothered101 · 02/09/2021 18:03

You really need to look at this website. Everyone is listing various symptoms but for me anxiety was the worst. Lack of oestrogen affects everything in your body for the rest of your life and if you are able to take hrt you would be mad not to. Apart from helping with all the symptoms it protects you against osteoporosis, heart disease and dementia!

This is a brilliant website

I was just coming on to recommend Dr Louise Newson -aka “the menopause doctor”. Her app Balance is so informative, I’ve started logging my symptoms daily in preparation for my next menopause clinic review. Had a surgical menopause at 46 and finally managed to get a testosterone gel prescription which is a game changer for libido Wink

Wuss24 · 02/09/2021 18:17

Feeling your pain, i resemble an egg with legs😫😫

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/09/2021 18:39

Don't forget the hot flushes that make you feel sick as well. They're delightful.

Katiemole · 02/09/2021 18:44

When does the no period start? all I’ve done so far at 47 is bleed to death Each month , it’s just getting worst, I can cope with everything else.

cicatrix1 · 02/09/2021 18:47

slurring your words to the point people think you have been drinking.Hobbling first thing in the morning with the pain in your feet, ankles ect.

ilovebrie8 · 02/09/2021 19:00

@Sarahclacko did your GP give you a prescription for testosterone gel? I’m on HRT and libido non existent!

Sarahclacko · 02/09/2021 21:15

@ilovebrie8 The menopause clinic made the original prescription but the GP has continued it - they wouldn’t consider it as it’s use is off license till the clinic started it.

Bertiebiscuit · 02/09/2021 22:14

Menopause is like childbirth, everything you were ever told was a lie, it is all a million times worse - menopause is waves of heat coupled with panic attacks so bad that you can't function - and have to beg your gp to prescribe HRT just so you can actually live

notjaneausten · 02/09/2021 22:18

I wonder if hrt affected my hearing, I read somewhere that it could. I'm extremely hard of hearing, it began gradually in my 50s after I had a total hysterectomy for fibroids

PearlyRising · 02/09/2021 22:20

@workshy44

I'm near enough to menopause age, not worried about weight as my waist is about 24 inches, my mother is the same but my hair is already super super thin and I hear it makes it so much worse. anything that helps with that ? Does taking HRT make it better or worse, seen come conflicting stuff online and the GP's are useless
Even if I never ate again, my corspe wouldn't have a 24''' waist!
PearlyRising · 02/09/2021 22:22

I think that everybody gets a different symptom so there's no point telling women or warning women because they'll all feel different weird strange things. For me, it was ridiculous ridiculous heavy periods. On a mini pill back to back now so no more periods. I'm scared to stop taking it!
