You literally can’t open a paper or indeed go on the internet without seeing an article about how the menopause is so much more than no period
It’s everywhere

This is in Style and Beauty, it's a thread about how menopause changes make up/ hair/ skin etc.

Currently finding it hard to find a very light conditioner , everything seems too heavy. Any suggestions?

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor, I have recently started to use Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioners and especially his leave in conditioner has been a bit of a game changer for me. They are expensive but I was desperate for nice hair!!

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 31/08/2021 18:11

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Watery eyes is weirdly due to Dry Eye caused by hormones. You need drops

I have them, they don't work that well Sad I've discovered an eye wash which helps more.

I've had the same problem. Most of the eye drops they prescribe are useless, a thick ish ointment worked for me. Has anyone mentioned vaginal atrophy and loss of libido?

Will look that up, thank you!!

I don't miss periods and I quite enjoy the cloak of invisibility that menopause has handed me. Makes up for the greasy skin, dry hair and middle age spread.

The worse part of menopause by far for me is the crippling anxiety attacks and loss of confidence, I can just about manage them now, or at least work with it but I ended up leaving a good job because of it. I do feel like I lost a part of myself and I miss the woman I was.

My poor Jack and Danny used to be so stylish and beautiful GrinI'm on the point of seeing the GP for some cream.

Oops I didnt realise it was S&B so in that spirit, what about moustaches? Call me Hercule and have done with it.

Libraryghost · 31/08/2021 18:27

I think the menopause is one of those things that you think you understand until it actually starts happening. A lot of the symptoms are vague and it’s confusing as to whether you are actually entering the menopause or if it is something else. I consider myself lucky to live in an age where it is openly discussed and HRT is an option. It’s comforting to know that so many other women are having similar experiences and we can chat about it.

Libraryghost · 31/08/2021 18:32

Does anyone else have a frizzy hairline that refuses to be tamed. My temple hairs no longer grow very long and have to be smoothed down with hairspray only to bounce back up when there is the slightest bit of humidity in the air. It makes me look deranged

:-)

I too did not realise this was in 'Style & Beauty', I just looked at 'last day', so maybe I should bow out.

I've not experienced vaginal atrophy and had my last period twenty years ago. There is still time.......

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2021 18:43

The more the merrier, it started out as a moan about make up not suiting etc but more than happy to moan about dry bits and any other things we discover Smile

Omg YES, frizzy hair line is dreadful, what's THAT about?!

  • make up you have been wearing for years suddenly looks shit – no changes here

  • Hair that has been behaving itself quite nicely with certain products nit require completely different products but you are yet to find them! – no changes here

  • Skin seems to be a completely different colour now and requires new products – no changes here

  • See above for hair colour - have been colouring hair since my 30s

  • Watery eyes that the optician says is normal and common in women over 50 - nope

  • Glasses for reading ! – I’m short sighted so this is not an issue for me at all. I take my glasses off for small print.

The menopause affects everyone differently. I had horrific headaches while going through it, the odd warm flush, and now my hair is much thinner and I have jowls, but I think I have had an easy ride compared to most.

AllTheSunshine · 31/08/2021 18:52

I've had all these except my body shape is better than ever.

The very worst thing is that I want sex all the time with my new man because I fancy the pants off him bit there's not a flicker of getting turned on physically. I'm on HRT patches and pessaries but nothing doing. It's SO distressing.

legalalien · 31/08/2021 19:00

The bouts of depression I’d had regularly since about age 16 disappeared. All the other relatively cosmetic changes (hair, nails, skin which tbh were all a bit rubbish to start with) well worth it, for me.

Plumtree391 · 31/08/2021 19:09

I used to have migraines and they stopped.

lunar1 · 31/08/2021 19:13

I started with the night sweats about 8 months ago. The first few had me doing lateral flow tests until DH suggested I go for some blood tests.

Don’t get me started about moustaches. Why is it that the hair on my head (which I would like to grow) seems to have ground to almost a halt and yet my moustache grows with such abundance it would make Tom Selleck jealous? I’ve not started with the chin hairs yet, but I’m expecting them.
KittenKong · 31/08/2021 19:16

It’s just great isn’t it? I wake each morning feeling stiff and like crap. Emotionally low, tired and restless. I’ve had enough of this! It’s also been pointed out that I am even grumpier than usual...

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2021 19:17

I have chin hairs but very few moustache hair, attractiveHmm I keep dithering about getting a Phillips Lumea thingy.

KittenKong · 31/08/2021 19:20

I have alopecia anyway... and am not hairy otherwise. But my hair has gone like flipping candyfloss!

RampantIvy · 31/08/2021 22:17

Ooh yes, the facial hair. I use an epilator evey few days.

isthisfishy · 31/08/2021 22:57

@SophieHMS ok I'll bite. Yes dry as the desert and made my vagina almost snap shut at the thought of a penis anyway near it! Now using a kegal electronic device every night for 40 minutes to improve blood flow and elasticity and vaginal moisturiser to keep it supple. Now enjoying sex again
