DH has surprised me with a posh meal in a nice restaurant this weekend for my birthday. Problem is I have nothing to wear (lockdown weight gain...) and not much time to shop. I won't have time to go shopping so I need to find something online. I'm 41, a size 16 and prefer to hide my tummy. I'm thinking a maxi or midi dress, nothing mumsy, sleeveless or with a busy print. V necks are good. Any suggestions? Thankyou!

@fandabbydozier what’s your budget?

fandabbydozier · 30/08/2021 19:46

Preferably under £50 but could go up to £80-100 for a dress I'd wear again..

Budget and colour?

How tall are you Op? Joe Browns have some lovely maxi dresses but they are long.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 30/08/2021 19:49

Bravissimo do some nice dresses if you are busty.

fandabbydozier · 30/08/2021 19:50

Colour wise I prefer strong colours, nothing sludgey or wishy washy. I like black and navy but also dark purple, jewel colours etc.

I think you would get lots of wear out of this

I'm not tall, around 5 feet 4. I have good sized boobs but they aren't huge. Will have a look at bravissimo as I haven't tried it before....

Thanks for your help so far!!

@GorgonzolaSouffle I like that dress but would prefer a capped sleeve - I hate the tops of my arms! I could always wear a cardi though so it is an option.

Lots of nice things at Ted Baker and some within your upper budget

Bizarre I know, but I purchased a lovely dress for the opera from Amazon...under £50 paired with a wrap and worked a treat!

fandabbydozier · 30/08/2021 20:26

Thanks Gorgonzola, that turquoise dress is nice but I'm not keen on the colour.

@FleasInMyKnees the purple dress is my fave of those three. Would prefer a deeper colour though I think. Sorry, feeling really fussy but realising I just need to make a decision and just order something.

@balloonsintrees do you have a link for your Amazon dress?
