Puffer style coat for dd10

Hi all, my dd needs a new winter coat but she's not interested in the usual Boden or fatface styles she's had before. She wants a cropped puffer jacket, similar to one she's seen in monki. Obviously they won't fit her as she's only 10 (nearly 11) and most aren't waterproof or even have hoods! Do any of you have any ideas of places I can look? I'm trying to make her understand that in primary school, she needs a decent, functional coat and all the ones she's suggesting are what I'd call "fashion coats" if you know what I mean! Sorry I don't know how to add links otherwise I'd show you what I mean

Do you have a link to the one she’s seen in Monki? Then it might help to work out if there’s a similar one that’s suitable Smile

Sorry I can't do the fancy links

Ah, so I’d just search for something like ‘girls cropped puffer’ - not sure what colour you’re after but there are plenty out there that are water resistant (properly water proof might be harder to find)

I can't link however there's a black and lilac coloured Nike one in Sports Direct for £49 that might fit the bill. Goes up to age 14 I think.

Thank you. She's after white or cream. Nothing black, pastel colours are as dark as she'd go. I've seen a lovely one in Colombia but she doesn't like it

New Look girls range?

BusySittingDown · 30/08/2021 11:53

Although it's not waterproof and the colour is a bit dodgy - if she's anything like me at age 10 it would be grey very quickly Wink.

I'm thinking womens styles are the ones she's liking and I'm fine with that, I just don't think they'll fit. She feels too grown up for her usual style yet she's too small for the adult ones she loves! I'm trying for a compromise, I was made to wear coats I hated as a kid and made to feel ungrateful if I said I didn't like something so I'm trying really hard to avoid that with her.

@BusySittingDown I think she'll like that. I never think of New look so thank you. I'll gather a few for her to choose from. Wish I'd have looked earlier, more sales then, although I don't mind paying up to £100 for a decent coat that will last a couple of years

This one?

I’m not sure what the quality would be (similar to New Look I guess) but this one? www.zara.com/uk/en/lightweight-puffer-jacket-p03121706.html

Or if you can hold off a few weeks there might be more options as the shops get more winter stock in.

M and S have longer ones in pink , blue and either black or navy.

I second New Look - found the perfect one for my DD there in their tween/teen range. It's warm and fine in rain - probably not 100% waterproof but good for school.

Also mine is 11 and can now wear a women's size 6 or 8 - she may be able to soon, which gives you a lot more options.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 30/08/2021 19:22

@QueenPeary thank you, that's good to know. Thanks for the suggestions, I love the abercrombie one, she's not keen though Hmm

Thank you for the suggestions, I've managed to help her see sense and ordered the columbia one in a pale blue colour. I reminded her that at primary school she is out in all weathers and waterproof and hood is non negotiable! I work in primary and shudder at the amount of kids without proper coats, especially on trips!
