Is this dress done to death now?

Or have i just had my eye on it for ages?

I need something that i can dress up for a wedding and then get wear out of afterwards. My legs are probably the only bit of my body I feel confident about right now but short dresses feel quite dated? 5'6, size 14-16, big boobs not much of a waist.

Doesn't look very weddingy to me personally

squee123 · 29/08/2021 16:32

I'd be a bit annoyed if a guest was flashing that much thigh at my wedding

LordOfTheThings · 29/08/2021 16:32

I think it looks more beachy than for a wedding. It's nice though.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 29/08/2021 16:33

No, it’s a nice dress, but not really very wedding. I see people in the various versions of it at the pub, it suits most of them and looks really nice, but it’s quite casual for a wedding.

And I found the neckline a bit precarious!

ElspethFlashman · 29/08/2021 16:35

That dress can be buttoned down, it's just unbuttoned so the model can flash thigh. It's actually very modest, I've seen it loads on InstaMums.

Janaih · 29/08/2021 16:36

I think that's fine for a wedding with a few more buttons done up! And a bit more structured hair.

Artesia · 29/08/2021 16:36

I’ve tried it in a different pattern. The cut isn’t great- v small over the shoulders compared to the hips, so the 12 was huge on me but the 10 was too small over the shoulders and bust (and I have a v pathetic bust!)

brazenandstrange · 29/08/2021 16:39

Ive got that dress. Im the same size as you and its quite flattering. The problem is the length. I am 5ft 6 and ive had to lop a good 4"s off the bottom, it is sooooo long. Its even too long for my 5ft 11 friend.

Also it comes with a belt that is absolutely tiny round the waist, so I wear a contrasting one.

It can be weddingy, if you do your hair right, wear heels etc and by the way it buttons down much further down the leg to the ankle, its just how the models wearing it that's all.

1forAll74 · 29/08/2021 16:45

I like it, I would like it in another colour though, I like the long split on it, great if you have good legs and nice footwear.. It's fine for a wedding I would say, You should wear what you really like, and not bother about other people's opinions.

salbodoodlecat · 29/08/2021 16:46

I have this dress in another material and I love it. It has buttons all the way up so it can be much more modest. I'm 5'9" and it's long on me which i like. I think it can look quite smart. It's quite a heavy material so be aware of that if it's a hot day. I've worn it loads as I love it so much.

genericuserneeded · 29/08/2021 16:46

@squee123

I'd be a bit annoyed if a guest was flashing that much thigh at my wedding
But I think the model is posing in a way to emphasise the split in order to sell the dress - it’s probably pinned in place

In reality I doubt the split will be that prominent, unless the dress is gravity defying

salbodoodlecat · 29/08/2021 16:52

Buttons all the way down too. So not revealing at all.

brazenandstrange · 29/08/2021 17:10

Oh and the fabric can tend to give you bad BO if it a hot day, and don't stand near any candles.... but it is lovely! lol

Anordinarymum · 29/08/2021 17:16

That is the kind of dress I would wear on holiday or at home in the back garden

Luckyelephant1 · 29/08/2021 17:22

I bought this dress in a different print this week. Personally I don't really like it, the material feels cheap considering the price and its really long. Plus the belt loops seem too far down so for me the belt sits at a very unflattering level although I am very petite. The dress buttons all the way down but even with as many buttons undone as the model you don't flash that much leg because it's not really cut like that.

Allwillbefine · 29/08/2021 17:34

I have this dress. It fits me very well and flatters me (size 10-12 hourglass, big shoulders). I don’t have problems with the length either even though I’m only average height at most. It would be perfect for a wedding of dressed up and with another button or two done up.

AnyFucker · 29/08/2021 18:09

What price is it ?

ElBandito · 29/08/2021 18:21

What a lovely dressing gown!

TiredThursday · 29/08/2021 19:27

I love these dresses and have two of them, eyeing up a third. No issue with the belt being small, I have both size 12 and 14, I'm currently closer to a 1r and both fit fine. I'm also 5'8" and they are the perfect length for me. I think they are great quality and very flattering, could look lovely for a wedding with the right accessorising but you would get lots of wear out of it afterwards.

Palavah · 29/08/2021 23:43

Thanks for all your comments. I don't expect to flash that much leg or chest in church (!) and would definitely be dressing up with hair, accessories etc.
I could go for the plain navy but I feel like I should embrace a print and the 'ditsy' (eeuch, that word gives me the ick) patterns are everywhere plus i feel a bit like mutton in a short dress.

I feel none the wiser about fit but will order and try on.

I have this dress in about 4 colours (great prices on eBay for them!) and I love it.

Perfect with heels and a dressy bag and jewellery, then great with trainers and a denim jacket for a more casual look.

I’d probably go for a less summery print than nth at one. Ive got it in a gorgeous navy and white star which would look perfect with silver heels and jewellery.

EssexCat · 29/08/2021 23:48

Ooh and I’m a small 10 and a 10 is perfect for me. If I was even slightly larger I’d probably go an size up for comfort.
