I've not been out in the big city for ages but DH has a birthday soon and we are going to the city for dinner and drinks. I'm all at sea with what to wear. I need to buy something but what??! I'm more jeans and top than dress but a dress is easier. Help! Relaxed Italian meal then a cocktail then pub. Help ! I'm short and fat size 14. Big belly. Boobs ok if rolled up into a good bra. Legs ok. Hit me with your ideas. Not a jumpsuit. I look rotund in them

It’s really about what you’re comfy in, for me that would be good jeans, a nice silk top and small heeled boots.

If it’s just pub relaxed meal etc I’d go for what you’re comfy in.

Good fitting jeans, boots, cami top and blazer. Nice accessories and hair and makeup.

I was leaning towards a long but semi casual animal print dress - the sort of "not noticeable now as everyone wearing them but I admire" dress. Comfy but shows I've tried (a bit) for me. Jeans are horrible for me right now and not got a nice pair I can breathe in. Boots are scruffy as I've lived in trainers/ wellies for 18 months. But still top and blazer sounds lovely. Probs size 12/14 too and definite 14 on bottom. What colour jeans? And would they be ok in a city bar like the Alchemist? Like I say I've not been out in 2 years to anywhere more than local drinks

Actually just found a pair of jeans I forgot I had!! Happy to buy new top/ blazer and maybe get away with an existing shoe?

I like this blazer www.dorothyperkins.com/petite-ivory-gold-button-blazer/AQQ16696.html
But what would this go with?!

www.dorothyperkins.com/petite-navy-fill-chiffon-strappy-maxi-dress/AQQ07297.html also like this dress. Maybe not together but I do suit navy

I have been through this about a months ago! I went to alchemist Sunday evening so depends on what day you are going too.

It wasn't very busy and people in a mix of "regular nice day clothes 75%" and 25% "make an effort jeans and a nice top or dress"

I wore a straight jersey midi t shirt dress and denim jacket and flat sandals.

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2021 15:04

The last time I went to thr alchemist, about two years ago, it was the Manchester one, I cannot say anyone was over dressed up. That blue dress you linked to would have been way over the top.

This is so helpful thank you! I need to blend in. I'm not aiming to be a statement- just to not embarrass myself or anyone else! I'll check out the m and s frock.
Thank you. I need you people. I've got no idea what I'm doing and the huge pile of the same pair of unflattering jeans in the same style is testament to that

Love that m and s dress. What jacket ? Denim ok ? And are these wedges acceptable?

You're just all tutting and shaking heads at me now aren't you ? I'm so hopeless. Going to get the m and a dress so just need shoe and jacket advice please 🙏

I think the dress you linked to is beautiful OP. I also like those wedges, but I also like the m and a dress, so whatever you feel most comfortable in. If it's the m and s dress I think a casual black blazer would go best, or maybe even black denim jacket or leather/suede jacket!

Bluntness100 · 30/08/2021 13:09

The wedges are lovely op. And a black blazer with the dress would be fab

Raera · 30/08/2021 13:16

m and s dress is perfect
