Best School Run Waterproof?

LightOfAThousandStars · 28/08/2021 21:27

I am trying to find the perfect waterproof for the school run and would love some ideas please. I'm 5'4 and have tried Seasalt coats but they don't look right on me.

Watching. I want a big poncho!

It depends whether you are after waterproof qualities or looks.

If it's waterproof, then sailing gear might be your friend. I've seen a lot of sailing mums in the Rooster rigging jacket when it's howling sideways rain.
Here

I don't have one because I have a seasalt janelle which does the job for me, but I am 5'8 and it is long.

Concestor · 28/08/2021 21:38

Following. I want a waterproof chat that looks nice but doesn't cost a fortune.

Concestor · 28/08/2021 21:39

Coat. Not chat 🙄

LightOfAThousandStars · 28/08/2021 21:39

Thank you, yes it needs to be waterproof with a hood that won't fly off in the wind!

I'm the same in looking for a waterproof for the nursery run, I'm very short 5ft 1, so really struggling to find one that's not too long!

Invisimamma · 28/08/2021 21:42

I've heard great things about didriksons. Out of my budget though so gone with good old trespass, just look for 10000 waterproofing or higher.

Twilightstarbright · 28/08/2021 21:44

Rains anorak.

hedgehogger1 · 28/08/2021 21:45

Check out the craghoppers sale. Their waterproofs really are waterproof!

CaveMum · 28/08/2021 22:10

I bought this over the summer. Haven’t been caught in any downpours yet to thoroughly test how waterproof it is, but it’s been perfect in showers and during some windy coastal walks during our holiday in Wales!

Target dry or lighthouse by target dry.

Annasgirl · 28/08/2021 22:20

I second Rains. I’m 5’3” and have the XS one. Really great - I’ve had loads of use as I live in Ireland 😂

Before that I had an Isle Jacobsen (the short one - came to my knee) but I feel now that the Rains ones are a bit more modern looking.

LightOfAThousandStars · 28/08/2021 22:27

Thank you for the great suggestions and I will definitely look for the 10, 000 waterproof rating.

@Rugsofhonour is your Rab one long enough to keep you dry?

@Invisimamma which Trespass one did you choose? They have a lot of variety online.

Protected Species

trulyconfuseddotcom · 28/08/2021 22:50

I like my Protected Species one, it's quite stylish and keeps me nice and dry.

Twilightstarbright · 29/08/2021 07:43

Yes Rains are roomy so I have a small and I’m normally a 12.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 29/08/2021 07:58

@Twilightstarbright and @Annasgirl I have been looking at rains but confused by sizing of the unisex ones. I’m a large 10 would I be S/M or XS/S? Suspect the answer to to order both

Twilightstarbright · 29/08/2021 08:12

I’d order both I think. Depends on your build, height and if you want to wear big layers underneath. Frustrating to be truly between sizes!

Equalpayquery · 29/08/2021 08:16

I have a Patagonia soft shell I really like, but when it’s really coming down I use my Patagonia powder bowl. It is sadly not stylish as I have had it donkeys years, but it does keep me dry.

Invisimamma · 29/08/2021 08:51

I got the trespass 'shoreline' not tried it in heavy rain yet but It was to replace my trespass 'seawater' one which I've had for 5yrs, loved it and it still has life left in it.

LightOfAThousandStars · 29/08/2021 11:03

Thanks @Invisimamma, the Shoreline looks like the perfect length!

I bought the XS and I am usually an 8 - it is still pretty big, - I would go XS/S if I were you. Remember, they are unisex so the sizes are men's sizes.

(I was not aware of this until a nice MN person wrote about it - luckily for me!!!)

Annasgirl · 30/08/2021 12:58

sorry @Chocolatecoatedkettlebell - that should have been
