Too young for someone in their late 40s?

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/08/2021 13:58

I'm in my mid-late 40s and having a bit of a wardrobe overhaul. Can anyone recommend a long sleeved button-up/zip-up top I can wear with jeans and a t-shirt?

I'm stuck trying to find something that's a bit smarter than a hoodie but also not the kind of cardigan you might typically see people wearing to the office. Or can I wear a hoodie?

How about this kind of hoodie?

A shacket?

You don't have to wear beige slacks and hotter sandals just yet. Buy and wear what you like

sillysmiles · 27/08/2021 14:16

Wear a hoodie if that's what you want to wear.

Futurecatmum2 · 27/08/2021 15:51

There’s no age limit on clothes Grin Wear what YOU feel good in!

Jigsaw did a lovely biker-style merino zip-up cardigan a couple of years back… not currently in stock but they might bring out something similar next season so worth keeping an eye out. This sort of thing: www.johnlewis.com/jigsaw-zip-biker-cardigan/p1133703

You don't have to? Oh no, I've been doing it all wrong.

Biker cardigan Grin

I had something similar but the zip was in the centre not the side .
I think I looked quite Chanel ..(though I am delusional )

Can I suggest you start with your shape/features? I'm a bit of a shape nerd. So if you're curvy, then waterfall/shawl type cardigans are really good - ditto belted with no collar (John lewis good?). If you're straight up and down and more angular then a biker would be great or a long line cardi-coat (Boden had a lovely cotton one a while back) If you're more athletic with broad shoulders then a kind of grandad cardigan would be fab (god I miss them - wore them all through my teenage years:)). And also colour - do you suit deep colours or more neutral? Cool or warm? Sorry - I've probably created more problems than I've solved (none) :)

babymooner · 27/08/2021 16:32

(and sorry, i'm sure there's a better way to post links)

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/08/2021 16:43

Thanks all for the suggestions, I know technically I can wear whatever I like and at my age I'm invisible anyway but I've been wearing the same kind of Primark/supermarket clothes for years now and really want to treat myself to something just a notch or two up but have no idea where to begin.

@babymooner I'm short and very top heavy, around size 16 top and size 12 bottoms, dark hair and eyes. Colour-wise I usually go for whatever shows pet hair the least Grin

So i think belted might be good - emphasises your curves but also draws attention to your slender hips:) Would the &otherstories cardigan appeal? Would work with dark hair and eyes (assuming you've also got gold skin - if you're pale it might wash you out, so you might want something darker). And match your boots to the cardigan (easy with taupe) so it all hangs together??

babymooner · 27/08/2021 16:53

With a navy shirt, open a few buttons at the top;) Worn with dark jeans that will elongate your line...
And a necklace with a bit of sparkle:)

I bought a new hoodie from JL and I’m 61. Should I take it back Grin?

MyCatHatesEverybody · 27/08/2021 17:31

@babymooner some nice ideas, thank you.

@Fairyliz nah it's from JL so you're fine!

☝️ This. I’m 62. Aside from bare midriffs and micro shorts skirts/short. I wear what I like. Wear clothes that express your personality and make you feel good.
