Footwear with 'mom jeans' once the weather changes?

Totally in love with some mom jeans I tried on.

I'm 5'3" so generally buy short length and the ones I've tried on (M&S, short length) are fine for now with flip flops/trainers and no show socks.

But they're total ankle swingers.

What would I do for footwear once it's cold for my ankles? It's so hard for me to accept that the ankle swinger look isn't bloody awful!

Even buying regular length I wouldn't know what to do...

Mom jeans are a bit 80s (in a good way) so could you tuck them into some shortish slouchy boots?

whiteonesugar · 26/08/2021 11:01

I wore them last winter with chunky ankle boots, which come up quite hight on the ankle and black socks...

I think socks and trainers would be fine too.

lochmaree · 26/08/2021 11:02

I wear mine with socks and trainers

'I think socks and trainers would be fine too.'

Totally. That's what I'm planning. The socks will get thicker and woolier as necessary 😊

Salanda · 26/08/2021 14:14

Ankle boots or trainers for me.

thedevilinablackdress · 26/08/2021 14:28

As above with lovely woolly, interesting coloured socks.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 26/08/2021 20:50

Another vote for thick (cashmere in my case) socks and trainers.

Bertiebiscuit · 27/08/2021 18:27

Always cashmere socks for winter, and yes, flat ankle boots, or trainers

Cotswoldmama · 27/08/2021 20:28

I wore mine with heeled Chelsea boots and a chunkier version of a Chelsea boot that went just over my ankle. I think lower ankle boots that show a bit of ankle and then having the jeans just above look good but it is a little bit chilly!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 27/08/2021 20:38

Dr martens boots, converse boots, trainers

Annasgirl · 27/08/2021 21:16

Chunky black laced ankle boots - they have them in M and S - I tried them on today, same height as you and they look amazing. They are the ‘vegan’🙄 I.e. non leather ones!
An older woman was asking my opinion on shoes and she looked at the platform ankle boots on me and said ‘oh, they are lovely, you look so modern’!!! I am middle aged and she was my mums age.

Lottapianos · 27/08/2021 21:30

Cashmere sock fans, do they need hand washing?

Coldbrewsandamumbun · 28/08/2021 02:56

Dr martens,especially Jadons.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 28/08/2021 03:00

I'm planning to spend a/w in bigarse clumpy Chelsea boots. They come up quite high on the ankle. Will leave a small gap until it gets too chilly.

thedevilinablackdress · 28/08/2021 11:04

While Cashmere socks are locker, I find them a bit high maintenance, so go for Merino wool instead. And last winter I got some mohair ones from the Cambridge sock co. The colour range is so amazing, it was really hard to stop myself from buying them all!!

thedevilinablackdress · 28/08/2021 11:05

*lovely
Not locker 🙄

Lottapianos · 28/08/2021 11:24

'And last winter I got some mohair ones from the Cambridge sock co'

Nice. How do you wash them?

museumum · 28/08/2021 11:28

Ankle boots - Chelsea, DM or high top trainers

thedevilinablackdress · 28/08/2021 11:42

@Lottapianos wool wash in the machine per the care instructions
