Similar to Jaques Vert?

SOT3 · 26/08/2021 10:03

I used to buy clothes from Jaques Vert but my local shop closed down and I can't find a website for them online. Does anyone know of a shop/company that sells similar style dresses and skirts please?

That took me back, my mum used to love their stores! I had a quick look online, mainly sold on eBay etc so assume have gone.
Is it mother of the bride type things or dress and jacket?

SOT3 · 26/08/2021 10:35

Well I first went there to buy a mother of the bride outfit for my daughter's wedding but then went back a few times as I loved their floaty style skirts and their less formal dresses.
There was a small concession in my local Debenhams but that has also now unfortunately shut down.

What about Wallis, Hobbs, Ruth Langsford QVC line? Studio 8 if you wear plus size, LK Bennett, JD Williams. That was a quick search online, hope it helps.

Defiantly41 · 26/08/2021 15:47

Chesca, Fenn Wright Manson, John Lewis own brand classic range, Honor Millburn at Edinburgh Woollen Mill,

snowspider · 26/08/2021 15:54

Mint Velvet, East, Coast maybe?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/08/2021 18:36

Last time I saw Jaques Vert was at Boundary Mills, West Midlands. Might be worth checking.

Floisme · 26/08/2021 18:57

I think they went into administration along with Planet, Eastex and Fenn Wright Mason. But I also think I heard that the owners of Edinburgh Wool Mill were buying them out.

leavesthataregreen · 26/08/2021 23:05

I think Mint Velvet is the closest on the High Street these days. Maybe Somerset by Alice Temperley at John lewis.

MauveMagnolia · 26/08/2021 23:09

Betty Barclay

snowspider · 26/08/2021 23:24

Ah yes my Mum used to get an Eastex fix when she came to stay and I'd forgotten Planet. There used to be another brand beginning with W that I can't remember

Dauphinois · 26/08/2021 23:34

Windsmoor!

MrsMaizel · 27/08/2021 08:24

Phase Eight .

MrsMaizel · 27/08/2021 08:24

Mint Velvet is nothing like Jacques Vert !😂

Divebar2021 · 27/08/2021 08:38

I agree about Mint Velvet… not at all the same. I think Windsmoor & Betty Barclay have been the closest so far. There was also Country Casuals but when I searched for them I got Bon Marche and Edinburgh Woollen Mill so maybe another buy out. The last time I saw JV was at Boundary Mill a while ago ( it’s a discounted retailer) who also sold Jaeger and other brands I didn’t know very well like Klass. It might be worth checking EBay for JV being sold… you can set up in search alert for what you’re after.

Are Artigiano still around?

Also Anne Weyburn (I think?) at La Redoute perhaps?

StCharlotte · 27/08/2021 09:22

Not helpful but I have had a gorgeous black Jaques Vert swing coat for well over 20 years and it's still like new. Cost me a fortune but I've certainly got value for money out of it.

I was very proud of it but my boss almost ruined it because his dad was in the "rag trade" and knew Jacques Vert who is actually (Mr) Jackie Green from the East End... Grin

Which doesn't help you at all. Sorry!

SOT3 · 27/08/2021 09:33

Thank you all so much for the suggestions, I really appreciate your help.

I understand exactly how you feel about your lovely coat StCharlotte x

Have a look at mcelhineys.ie. they sell a lot of clothes similar to Jacques Vert.

Also Paul Costelloe at Dunnes Stores. Just google both. Sorry I can't do links.

More expensive, more exclusive but with a similar vibe check out mariangale.ie

1moreglassplease · 27/08/2021 10:28

Floisme - Artigiano are now part of Mona but might be worth a look.

EWM bought Country Casuals which my mum used to love. It's not the same at all now. I think you're correct about the other brands going into administration but FWM are still going I think.

Whoever suggested Betty Barclay is a good shout as is Chesca.

Floisme · 27/08/2021 10:42

Ah thank you 1moreglassplease. Sorry for the confusion about FWM - I'd assumed they'd gone under when they disappeared from our local Debenhams (or was it John Lewis?) a good couple of years ago.

Floisme · 27/08/2021 11:06

Gina Bacconi might be another and their website seems to be up still -
I checked first this time! ginabacconi.com/gbp/

travailtotravel · 27/08/2021 11:10
