Pants/shoe combo for a short person with swollen legs

Hi all, long time lurker!

I know it's not the usual question about style, but I wondered was anyone in the same boat.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis, have done for many many years, but my legs, knees, ankles and feet are so swollen, I can no longer wear jeans, which were my staple.

So I've been wearing leggings and tunic tops/dresses and runners. Not fashionable I know, but there we are. But my legs are too swollen for leggings, my knees are so obvious, you can also see the indent of my socks cutting off my leg so it all looks awful.

So here is the hope: that there is some easy to wear, functional outfit for a short fat apple who needs to hide her legs.

Can anyone recommend anything? It's all casual wear I'm looking for, so I can go on school run, shops etc, I work from home so no dressing up there.

Can you wear wide leg trousers? I saw a woman the other day ( probably size 18) looking fab in wide leg trousers and tshirt, with a long (knee length )open shirt/kimono over the top. You could wear trainers with that.
Long skirts could also be a possibility, although I've found maxi length is not practical if you live in house with stairs, particularly if it is flowy. A straight, tube style might work better.

What about the jersey trousers selection in M&S? They seem to have loads of styles.

I have got these in black uk.saintandsofia.com/products/runway-pant-plain-navy-trouser which are quite loose from the thigh down.
