Clarifying shampoo for sticky hair

I try not to wash my hair too much as it is coloured. I left it 6 days after having it freshly coloured and now after washing it is worse! It has gone sticky in places and I don't know why! Can anyone recommend a decent clarifying shampoo for coloured hair please?

What are you using just now?

JaneJeffer · 25/08/2021 17:23

How do you mean sticky? Six days is a long time without a wash.

Might depend on the colour you had done, but I use a dilute apple cider vinegar rinse for clarifying. But I don't have coloured hair, you might want to check first that it won't just strip out the colour. Or try a conditioner only wash? (I.e. no shampoo). I use Avalon organic (might have got the name wrong)

@JaneJeffer so when I washed my hair it wasn't sticky just needed a freshen up after 6 days. I try to leave it a while after it's been coloured to set the colour in so it doesn't fade as much. By sticky, that's exactly what I mean!! It was sticky in patches after the wash- like it hadn't dried and was clumpy. I use a faith in nature brand shampoo which is sulphate free but nothing fancy.

Did you give it a good rinse? I'm afraid anything clarifying will strip the colour.

Boots do their own brand one. I have coloured hair and it makes no difference. Faith in nature is nice but I alternate it as I also get a build up

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/08/2021 20:28

Build up perhaps? I use a silicon scalp brush to shampoo (a few pounds on amazon) and rinse twice as long as I think I need to.

I think 6 days is ages without a wash though, nothing would get my hair clean if I left it 6 days then did a wash with a sulfate free shampoo. I do use Faith in nature and rate it but every few washes I either shampoo twice or use my areaH20 shampoo which really removes build up, it's designed for hard water areas.

So many conflicting things out there.. I thought washing my hair less frequently was good but clearly not!!

Old school Vosene in the green bottle. Great, cheap clarifying shampoo.

Six days is a lot though. Mine goes pretty manky if I leave it three days and I have curly hair.

I use OGX charcoal detox shampoo which is nice. Can't comment on the colour though. When my hair is particularly manky, I use DH's TGel, but that does strip colour

ufucoffee · 25/08/2021 21:11

Don't use a clarifying shampoo when you have colour. Just use your usual shampoo and do it twice before conditioning.

LakeShoreD · 25/08/2021 21:13

If your hair wasn’t sticky before you washed it but is now is then chances are you just didn’t rinse it properly. Just get back in the shower and give it a good old lather, rinse, repeat.

JaninaDuszejko · 25/08/2021 21:13

Do you swim? Hair goes sticky with chlorine build up.

Thisismyusername1 · 25/08/2021 21:17

I use this from boots when I get sticky patches

www.boots.com/boots-expert-build-up-removal-shampoo-200ml-10247057?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--PLAs_HeroCompare--Beauty-_-UK_Brand_Shopping_Beauty+SSC&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5Ze-vf7M8gIVRevtCh2xmgUtEAQYASABEgIorPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I tried the Apple cider vinegar, etc none of it worked. And I use the Elvive clay shampoo and conditioner all other times seems to have worked for me.

I colour my hair with henna so not sure whether these shampoos would affect coloured hair.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/08/2021 21:26

I get this OP and I know what you mean, it's sticky no matter how mich you rinse. I use a Tresseme deep clean shampoo occasionally and have coloured hair and it works really well.
