Foundation recommendations please!

Hi,

So I appreciate this has been done to death on here, but my head is spinning with all the different variations!

I've been wearing YSL Youth Liberator (BR20) for the past few years and I ran out yesterday and would normally just go online and repurchase, but actually it does have a couple of downsides. One being it's a little bit too oily and slides all over the place when wearing a mask, but definitely the most annoying thing about this foundation is the bottle! You can't open it up to get the last bits out and the glass is opaque, so you have no clue how much you have until it just stops pumping out.

I do like the colour and the fact it's a medium coverage, that feels very light.

I impulse bought a Clinique Even Better Refresh in Alabaster 10, which is actually a full coverage, but is almost too full to work with iyswim and it's far too yellow in tone. I've already taken it back.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a foundation that's medium to full coverage, with a rosey undertone and no yellow.

I normally like a dewy finish, but that doesn't seem to be good with masks, as I'm constantly reapplying, so I don't mind a semi matte finish, as long as it's not too cakey and flat.

Don't really want to spend more than £30/£35, unless it's amazing!

TIA Smile

I'd been using a Clinique foundation - I think one of the even better range - and wanted a change. As it was tricky to get testers during covid I decided to go for something cheaper in case the colour wasn't right and after a bit of research ordered Revlon Colorstay. It comes in a natural or matte finish (I've got matte) and I used a colour match website where you put in other foundations which are the right colour for you, to find the right shade.

I'm really pleased with it - good coverage, nice finish and stays put as well as anything else I've tried. Plus about a third of the price of more premium brands. I recently tried some samples of the new Clinique serum foundation but to be honest found it nowhere near as good as the Revlon and I've just ordered a second bottle (which is unheard of for me!)

Have a look at Nars Sheer glow. If you’re fair enough for Alabaster in Clinique, Mont Blanc in Nars could work for you. It’s fair but more pink toned. Or YSL touch eclate is also nice. Shade BR10 or BR20 could work depending on how fair you are.

NotMyCat · 25/08/2021 22:01

I'm pale with cool undertones (and avoid yellow shades!)
Revlon colourstay works well on me
CYO lifeproof if you find it anywhere is magic, it's ridiculously cheap and goes on like butter but does not budge
Estée Lauder futurist is REALLY nice but not great with masks. Full coverage but dewy
MAC waterweight is a nice light foundation with decent coverage and shade range
Nars sheer glow, not glowy or sheer Grin but wears well, I have shade Oslo

Boots hydraluminous - i use a setting spray all the time now with masks!

Elizabeth Arden is massively underrated. They have a new range out its lovely.

EezyOozy · 25/08/2021 23:53

Dior teint idole

  • one of the rose shades
Aquamarine1029 · 25/08/2021 23:58

The Ordinary Serum foundation. It's amazing and the price can't be beat.

mobear · 26/08/2021 00:15

Another vote for NARS Sheer Glow, it’s amazing. I don’t bother with anything else now.

Screwyoularry · 26/08/2021 00:17

Chanel Healthy glow. It's pricey but it lasts

Mamajunebugjones · 26/08/2021 04:42

The Ordinary foundation- love the way it feels light on my skin but also provides enough cover

I heard (somewhere) soap and glory kiss ass foundation is exactly the same. Both were made by Boots and when Boots cancelled CYO, they wanted everyone to move to soap and glory, which has exactly the same ingredients - but more expensive! Typical Boots really.

WrinklesShminkles · 26/08/2021 11:21

Dior Backstage is buildable coverage and looks very natural - demi matte.

PineapplePanda · 26/08/2021 11:25

Bareminerals Complexion rescue foundation.

Never gone back to any other foundation. It's creamy and light and gives a glow. Doesn't turn your face orange, yellow or brown.

ChocolateRiver · 26/08/2021 12:05

Another one to consider is Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick. It gives a really nice natural finish and is very buildable so you can wear as little or as much as you like. They have lots of shades too.

Toffeepineapple · 27/08/2021 15:11

Thanks for all the recommendations!

In the end, I went with Nars Radiant Longwear, which actually I don't think was recommended Grin but I was looking at the Sheer Glow and really liked the look of it, but was worried that I'd have the same slippy issues with masks and heard good things about the Longwear.

Not tried on properly yet, but am going out in a bit, so will report back after that. The shade I got was Mount Blanc and looks a good match 👌

Try Lancôme for pink undertones.,

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/08/2021 15:15

Oh sorry, missed your update.

ChocolateRiver · 27/08/2021 15:41

Oh good, I thought Mont Blanc would be right. Your colouring sounds very similar to mine.
