Lost my style mojo

At one point about 10-15 years ago I read an article on fast and sustainable fashion then decided to try to stick to fairly classic, timeless clothes, e.g. plain navy dress, simple shoes and coat that goes with everything. It worked for me and I felt comfortable an “me” in my clothes. Many of my clothes were bought in charity shops and I’d only buy things that I knew I’d get a lot of wear out of.

Well it all went to pot during lock-down when I joined a few Facebook clothes groups related to colourful, patterned organic clothes. I’ve had a few other issues going on (and still ongoing) and have overspent on clothes that are just not really me. I think I’ve been drawn in by the sustainability factor…but it’s for out of control and I now have way too many clothes that I don’t wear and so confused when getting dressed in the morning.

It’s making me miserable. I’m not really sure what I’m asking but can anyone else can relate and have any advice?

Firstly, unfollow the FB groups, if you haven't already.
Think about selling the unwanted clothes on vinted/depop/marketplace.
Buy clothes you like and will wear.
Try not to feel guilty about the clothes you've bought and don't wear if you were in a bad place at the time - look at it as a learning curve and don't make those mistakes again.

Thanks user1494055864 I think I was definitely buying to try to make myself feel better but somehow lost myself even more on the way.

I’m going to allow myself a new backpack (which I need for carting toddler stuff around), some more pants and leggings and then nothing else until Christmas at least. Everything I buy must go with at least 5 other things I already own….I’d really love some DMs though but might leave that until Christmas as a reward for not buying more but selling.

Look on ebay for DMs, or look for Solovair derby booots. They are made by the company that made DMs back in the day.

Sell your colourful clothes. They will probably sell well.

I bought far too many shoes during the lockdown, and hope to sell most, but of the ones I bought there are some I love.

KirstenBlest yep it hasn’t all been in vain, have bought some lovely things which I will definitely keep and it’s made me realise that I should only but sustainable wherever possible in future but maybe just tone it down a bit 😆

Wear bright things. I do.
Sometimes I think things are a bit 'young' for me but I get compliments on them. I'm not young but I wear bright dungarees, mini skirts etc. I might feel self-conscious the first time I wear something but it soon wears off.

I also wear lots of black and navy and buy classic or 2nd hand wherever possible.
