What do you do in this situation? Make up

I went to get a new foundation today (usually an Estée Lauder girl), but thought I'd try a new one from Number 7.

The woman at the counter got me to remove my make up and the did that little scanner machine that tells you your shade

I did say beforehand not to do that on my face, do it on my neck because it's darkest

She looked at me like I had committed the ultimate sin and said I must never do that! Always match to the colour of my face

Thing is, my face is a completely different colour entirely to the rest of my body! It looks ridiculous. My skin is actually okay but it's one of the reasons I won't go without slap. It just looks really odd

What do you do? Darker to match rear of you or lighter to match

I match with my face but actually what you say makes more sense.
On inspection my neck and chest are darker.

I would just go back to the stuff you know suits you and you like. I have melasma over a large proportion of my face and the woman in superdrug tried to advise me and I politely told her I know what suits me and what I need to cover it plus I wasn't convinced due to her own makeup being quite poorly applied!

Unhelpful, but my gosh your skin and lips are a thing of envy!

ahoytheremelovely · 24/08/2021 19:26

Thank you!

Thing is it's even worse in any photos someone takes of me, I like like a white plastered face with a brown body 😆

@lyntheyresexpeople thank you, that's really made my evening

A lot of people will match to their face then use bronzer so I guess it depends whether you're a bronzer person or not! I would go with the closest match to your neck

PickAChew · 24/08/2021 19:30

Maybe that shade would work better in winter when you're less tanned. I always matched to my neck (back in the days when I did wear make up) as my base skin tone is so pale that anything beyond alabaster made me look orange from the jaw up.

There’s a helpful Lisa Eldridge video on YouTube about choosing a foundation shade and she does suggest taking chest colour into account. I also have a face that’s much paler than my body and my makes has definitely been looking more natural since I started taking her advice on this.

I have been outside far less than often and I'm probably my winter colour right now

My body is a far darker colour when it's actually sunny/and or on holiday

So I think just bronzer would have to be very over done to work
