I’m looking for shoes to wear for my return to the office (hooray) which is smart casual so not sandals or trainers but not heels either. Ideally they meet the following criteria

  • comfy - likely to walk a couple of miles and have hip/knee / ankle issues.
  • wide or generous fit - have high arches
  • work with straight leg navy trousers
  • not totally flat (makes my back hurt), but not high
  • not black, ideally blue, maybe grey or muted red. Brown or silver at a push.

Ideas welcomed!

I’ve checked John Lewis, Clarks and Gabor to no avail.

Something like this? Wedges are always so comfortable!

Op have you seen the Clark's hamble oak brogues? I had them for years. Software so very comfy.

What about a Dr Marten loafer? I’ve had these for two years and they look great, are really comfy, and I can walk for miles in them.

I second the fitflops. Not the world’s most stylish shoes but super, super comfortable. I have a pair of their ballet flats, two pairs of ankle boots, one pair of knee boots and a pair of white trainers from them. For my taste, they do tend to over embellish shoes (lots of metallic, stud or glitter options) but if you look through their website carefully they do sell more classic styles (all mine are plain coloured leather).

Josef Siebel are perfect, your feet sound really similar to mine. This style would fit the bill but there are a few there that could work well

Another vote for the Dr Martens loafer. I can walk for miles in mine with my wide feet/high arches and they never feel like they’re slipping off. Great with trousers or skirts - I cycle to work so keep limited shoes in the office. These work with everything. Good call @SarahBellam!

OMG!

They were my school shoes throughout high school, (well outside of the Kickers and Wallabies crazes) I didn’t know they were still made! I think I need them in my life!

Rieker is sometimes a bit different. I have suede boots from there and I can walk miles in them.

wateraddict · 23/08/2021 23:56

If you are walking and have joint issues, a good pair of running trainers will give you good support and lessen the impact. Then you can wear what you like in the office. I also find it keeps my feet sweeter to walk in socks and trainers and not have to wear shoes or boots with tights. This may not be what you had in mind but it really works for me! Good luck.

Thanks folks, lots of good ideas.

I like the white stuff but they’re not supportive enough for the walk.

Fit flop - I didn’t realise they did such a variety! Will have a good look.

Joseph Siebel are perfect for my feet, my favourite boots and sandals are from there but I have only ever bought via JL, daftly have never seen the full range. Will order the pink ones and have a look for more styles. Good sale too!

I tried Clarks hamble oak years ago but found them too hard on my heels.

I do have lots of shoes in my locker and used to wear trainers for the walk but am aiming for an all day pair instead given my office heels are not even appropriate any more and, actually, I would rather be comfy all day!

Dr M. I am also short and dumpy and my feet are large, proportionate to my height so I feel these would not flatter.

Rieker - new to me, will have a goggle.

Thanks again!
