Which Size? In between would be perfect

Am ordering some new work dresses (new job). Have attacked the Monsoon sales and of the ones I ordered I like 2. But....I am kind of between sizes and don't know whether to order the S or the M or send them all back. Your valued opnion gratefully received.

Blue with white pattern. Left is Small, right is Medium. - I have a feeling the M is just a bit too big. But often a bit big can be more flattering than too small. The S is not majorly tight...but I work in a school so don't want too form-skimming. Also am 49! Any thoughts?

The teal/green one. Side by side pic is M and Up/Down pic is Small. Both look good - but the M maybe a bit baggy over the shoulders. The S possibly less forgiving if I am wearing the wrong bra/pants. S feels like it makes my tits look enormous - maybe the slightly small size is stretching the knit over them. And, yes I think that is actually back fat hanging over there (may need to readjust when put bra on Blush

I want to play it safe with the larger ones. Elegant drapey rather than Kardarshan snug......But I am also very good at hiding in clothes and I am used to wearing jeans and baggy jumpers and actually the M ones make me look like a sack of potatoes...

Any help gratefully received.

They don't look any differentdifferentHmm
Which one is most comfortable?

BasiliskStare · 23/08/2021 18:40

@SizeEleven i think you look good in either - but

My advice would be take 1/2 a size up rather than 1/2 a size smaller - it may look more elegant.

Also you can have it taken in if you need to but you can't get it made bigger.

shangelawasrobbed · 23/08/2021 18:44

I think you look nicer in the smaller sizes. The bigger ones are less flattering and look a little bit frumpy, but the smaller ones look like they fit you well.

pickingdaisies · 23/08/2021 18:45

The blue white one, I think the small is better. The green, medium. But I prefer the blue and white!

CorrBlimeyGG · 23/08/2021 18:47

In the black, the small is more sexy, the medium more safe.

In the green I can't tell the difference.

All look lovely. Off to look at the Monsoon sale!

ttcissoboring · 23/08/2021 18:55

The black dress I think the one on the left fits much better. Is it the smaller size? It's more flattering for sure.

The green I can't tell a difference tbh

Forgotit · 23/08/2021 19:02

Sizewise, what pickingdaisies said (but I prefer the green!)

ItsDinah · 23/08/2021 19:12

The Small blue and white really suits you but I would go for the Medium for work. The short length stops it looking frumpy. The green one's skirt doesn't sit right. Perhaps it is crumpled or needs a thick underskirt. Overall I think it's unflattering and would be to most people. Sorry to be negative.

ChirpyChirp · 23/08/2021 19:48

The smaller black (blue?) one and the bigger green one :)

SirenSays · 23/08/2021 19:50

The smaller sizes look better.

5128gap · 23/08/2021 19:52

Smaller in both looks much better, but the blue one looks shorter in the smaller size so has quite a different look.

BanningTheWordNaice · 23/08/2021 20:04

Definitely the smaller size for the black/white one. I can’t really see a difference in the green one!

interest12 · 23/08/2021 20:10

Smaller in both, they're not to right at all

SizeEleven · 23/08/2021 20:13

I am veering towards sending the green one back. It is quite fine knit and clingy - so unless I wore some kind of slip it would show every lump/bump/tights seam etc. So I think that is why I thought the small (which actually fits really nicely) was too small. Actually, both sizes just show every line and bump. I may try it on one more time in case I am just being hyper sell-critical. But this is the only one I ordered not in the sale and it is £70 - so although not outragoeous ££ it is not a cheap mistake to make. It looks like it could catch really easily too. DH really liked it - but that may have been the pale bra through the knit really making my boobs stand out Grin

I am definitely keeping the blue one. But I think I am going to play safe and go for the Medium size. It does look really nice in the smaller size...but being school based would probably rather be a bit frumpy than figure hugging. It is knitted cotton and may shrink a bit..so the M gives me a bit of duff-washing-allowant. Also this one is only £21 so an absolute bargain.

Small in both fits but I might go for medium in green as it it’s clingy material and as you said more forgiving.

Passthecake30 · 23/08/2021 22:41

Where are you weight wise at the moment? I have a window of about 1/2 stone I stay in (lower end before bikini weather, upper end after Xmas), so if you do that, think about what’ll fit after Xmas Grin

Miseryisabutterfly · 23/08/2021 22:51

You look fantastic in the smalls, you can see your (teeny) waist!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 23/08/2021 23:56

Small for both look lovely and really suit you.

minipie · 24/08/2021 00:06

Nooo definitely get the smaller size in the blue and white. It doesn’t look clingy or inappropriate at all, just looks like it fits!

Agree the teal,is ok but could go back

Marmaladeagain · 24/08/2021 00:11

The smaller one fits better.

Bimblybomeyelash · 24/08/2021 00:18

I think the small one is more
Flattering, but that’s not the most important thing when working in a school! So I’d go for the medium, which still
Looks nice, but
More
Comfortable and ‘safe’.

DelphiniumBlue · 24/08/2021 00:18

I think you should keep the teal one , it looks lovely on you.
i think I recognise you, did you have a thread a few years ago about going grey? Your hair looks gorgeous now, especially with the teal dress!

Bimblybomeyelash · 24/08/2021 00:18

Sorry my fat thumbs keep pressing return instead of space 🙄

pickingdaisies · 24/08/2021 12:05

If the teal is £70 I don't think it's worth it, the style is lovely but the fabric doesn't look worth the money. Plus the clinging. You'll probably end up feeling frumpy in the medium, or self conscious in the small.
