Autumn & winter trousers

I am keen to move out of skinny jeans as they are so uncomfortable when I am sitting at my desk (WFH and can wear jeans in the office).

I like to wear ankle boots- Chelsea and DMs - in the winter

I love cropped wide trousers and jeans in the summer, but don't fancy flares or wide trousers flapping around in puddles all winter

I also walk my dogs morning and evening and need to be able to tuck my trousers into wellies without changing my outfit 3x a day!

What can I wear this winter?

I’ve been wearing cropped baggy jeans - barrel, pleated, wide-leg, mom - with army or biker boots that come quite high up my ankle. DMs also good, or leather boot-style Converse. Top of jeans should meet boots. Warm longish socks fill in gap, or knee-high socks under wide-legs to prevent draughts. Cropped wide will go over wellies!

Floisme · 23/08/2021 11:27

In wet, cold weather I swerve the wide legs and stick to straight, tapered or barrel leg. I don't tuck them into boots so, if that's essential for you then I probably can't help, but I wear them with chunky ankle boots that meet them at the hem and thick socks, which is dry and warm enough for me.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/08/2021 11:29

I've been out of skinny jeans for a few years and am pretty much exactly per @MaryLennoxsScowl. I wear trainers or DM monkey boots with barrel or balloon leg jeans, or Levi's 501s. I also have cords in a similar cut.

If it's really chilly then I have knee-high socks to close the ankle gap. I don't have a dog though so don't need to worry about wellies. (one of the perks of being #teamcat!)

PeriConfused · 23/08/2021 15:09

@Judystilldreamsofhorses where do you get your cords from? I really love the idea of some cords this winter

DM Chelsea & combat boots are my staple winter footwear

PeriConfused · 23/08/2021 15:15

I obviously don't spend enough time on S&B. I have now googled barrel leg jeans.... now down a rabbit hole of searching for the ones I like best!

Salanda · 23/08/2021 15:30

I wear similar to all the suggestions above - slim, straight leg and tapered jeans and trousers, and wear them with DMs, other slightly slimmer lace up boots, chunky Chelsea boots too.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/08/2021 15:40

@PeriConfused COS! I have pairs from last year (peg-leg style) and from I think two years before (wide leg crops) and absolutely love them. Cos tend to cut well for my lower quarters - I'm a hippy size 10 - so I often buy the same trousers in multiple colour-ways there.

PeriConfused · 23/08/2021 15:49

@Judystilldreamsofhorses off to search COS! Thank you

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/08/2021 16:22

@periconfused I have some beautiful dark green ones sitting in my basket right now...

malificent7 · 23/08/2021 16:47

Velvet or cord straight leg trousers or leggins are great.

PeriConfused · 23/08/2021 17:18

@Judystilldreamsofhorses same! Just need to commit and buy. They look gorgeous. I am a COS first timer!

PeriConfused · 23/08/2021 17:19

@malificent7 I am with you, I think cord and velvet could be a great change for me this winter. Thank you

AnnieSnap · 24/08/2021 00:30

I have always liked cords. They are so comfortable in Winter, so I’ll have my eyes open for some. I am also looking for Winter weight wide leg pants. I like the idea of wearing them with long socks as mentioned by @Judystilldreamsofhorses

PeriConfused · 24/08/2021 07:03

@AnnieSnap please let us know what you find. Despite the weather most ships do not seem to be stocking much of their winter stuff yet.

thedevilinablackdress · 24/08/2021 07:46

Cords - straight leg and tapered, Black 501s, and I have a couple of pairs of tapered wool trousers coming from eBay that I'll need to un-smarten with chunky boots and jumpers.

I will, but it could be a while. As you say, the Autumn/Winter stuff isn’t out there yet. Happily, Summer weather seems to have reappeared 🙂

Sorry for being thick but if you don’t tuck the jeans in don’t they sit over your boots and just look really 1990s?

Tanaqui · 24/08/2021 18:32

I like 7/8the sort of cigarette cut- h and m have great ones unattractive called slacks- will try and link! They do 2 similar versions, one with a button and zip and one with a stretchy waist.

Tanaqui · 24/08/2021 18:35

Can't link as a search keeps going to my app, but 🤞this is a picture

Well the 90s is very in at the moment so, in theory, that would be fine.
I can't imagine how I would tuck most, or any of my trousers into my boots anyway. They wouldn't reach or fit.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/08/2021 20:48

@DGFB mine are all slightly cropped - if it is too cold for bare ankles I wear long socks!

AnnieSnap · 28/08/2021 12:15

@PeriConfused I found crop wide leg and cords in one 😀 The down side is they are £95 and I doubt I’ll find a discount code. I never spend this much on anything other than a coat or boots, but they look perfect!

@AnnieSnap I love people tree. I also saw some in La Redoute (social media spam) that looked great, but I have never bought from their site

I have bought a few things from La Radoute and been. Happy with them. Quality is variable though, so look carefully at fabrics and reviews. If you sign up, they will email you with their regular discount offers!
