Luckily I had boys so I never had to say it Grin

I might've asked them to wear their new jeans rather than the torn, tatty ones when visiting their grandparents, but that's about it.

Kanaloa · 23/08/2021 02:13

Very little. If they were going out in the snow without a coat, or in clothing that showed underwear then I’d say something.

Henrysmycat · 23/08/2021 05:45

Messy clothes, unwashed hair and face with yesterday’s makeup. When my tall, skinny DD wears 10 sizes larger clothes that literally slide off her. Weather inappropriate clothes.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/08/2021 06:21

Ive saidit to dh when his tshirt was stained and had holes.

MuchTooTired · 23/08/2021 06:43

Mine are 3.5 so I frequently say it. Mainly because they seem to think clothing is optional, and as long as they’ve got their wellies on they’re good to go!

RuthW · 23/08/2021 06:53

I've never had to say anything. She's 24 now.

The only thing I ever put my food down with was no jeans when out for a meal with grandparents.

Corkina · 23/08/2021 07:27

Denim shorts where you can literally see their butt cheeks...a no for me!

HelloDulling · 23/08/2021 07:32

Anything that showed DD’s actual bum/breasts, probably.

lazylinguist · 23/08/2021 07:32

Depends on age. I've never had to say it to dd, who turns 16 this week. Hypothetically... anything extremely revealing. But she'd never wear anything like that anyway.

What would constitute ‘too make-up’?
ShippingNews · 23/08/2021 07:36

If their clothes were dirty , That's about it.

PersonaNonGarter · 23/08/2021 07:38

I quite often say it about unwashed or ripped clothes.

Joggers if we’re ever going out for a meal anywhere nicer than Nando’s.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 23/08/2021 07:39

The beanie hat when it's roasting, she's prone to fainting anyway without an overheated head.
Dirty, smelly clothes.
Clothes that don't fit.

SmookleLaFaberge · 23/08/2021 07:39

To DS "I've bought you new trainers, you're not going out in those things for lunch because they are held together with dirt".

Hungry675tf · 23/08/2021 07:52

Crop tops in young DC. Not that mine own them, but I really don't like sexualised clothing on children and consider crop tops in this bracket.

Anything noticeably dirty.

Droidian · 23/08/2021 08:01

Only if it were dirty.
Too much makeup/no jeans with grandparents - good God, are we in the 1950's!

skippy67 · 23/08/2021 08:42

If their clothes were dirty. Dd is 20 now, and I've never said it. I've raised an eyebrow on occasion, but never said you're not going out in that.

Kanaloa · 23/08/2021 14:08

I know, I don’t think I’d even know what to tell my kids to wear if not jeans - smart trousers like school trousers?
ActonSquirrel · 23/08/2021 15:56

Yeah I saw that in the shopping centre last weekend along with a top that exposed the whole midriff and cleavage.

How anyone thinks that is attractive is beyond me. No one wants to see anyone else's arse cheeks

stripedbananas · 23/08/2021 16:05

My DD has an amazing figure so I let her wear what she wants so long as her underwear isn't showing.

MrsPear · 23/08/2021 16:07

White sport socks and school shoes - look just bloody awful as there school uniform is formal.
Other than that only if we going out out rather than say Tesco. Usually colour choices or they are too casual. But its usually said in a discussion way than get up upstairs and change way which has meant we have some interesting pictures. Then again I have taken Batman to Tesco move times than I can count. Ds 1 has a clothes budget since year 4 and I’d like to think he has good taste - few bits I’ve inwardly raised eye brows but hey ho. (I’m thinking of the gold trimmed black shorts and the white denim shorts)

stripedbananas · 23/08/2021 16:07

And DS always wants to wear the same hoody so I have to hide it so he'll wear his other ones

Floisme · 23/08/2021 16:07

I asked my son if he was sure it was ok to wear ripped jeans to the office when he'd only just started working there. He rolled his eyes at me and got a pay rise at the end of the year so that was me firmly in my place. Most of the time I think it's better to make mistakes and learn from them, although I'm sure I'd feel far more conflicted if I had a daughter.

SparkyBlue · 23/08/2021 16:09

Eight year old DD hates brushing her hair. It's the current battle so that's the only thing. I don't want her head looking like a birds nest

BonsaiCapybara · 23/08/2021 16:47

Fucking hell - crop tops are sexualised clothing? You're the one sexualising a child!
