Hen do with glitter / sequins theme

I’m going on a hen do in late September and “sequins and glitter” is the stated theme. I don’t really own anything that fits the brief except for a pair of silver glittery ballet shoes, and it’s been ages since I went on a hen do! It’s going to be relatively low key - think restaurant followed by drinks in a bar.

I was looking at this dress but I think it might be too formal… any other suggestions? I’m a curvy size 14 so jumpsuits are out as they always cling to my tummy!

If its a casual meal and drinks, then yes, it could be too dressy. DO you know what others are wearing?

I immediately assumed it means glitter makeup, so maybe glitter eye shaddow, glitter on the cheeks OR lips? Or spray glitter in your hair?

I'd likely wear my regular, evening clothes, but buy a sequined scarf/necktie and get some glittery make-up.

Elouera · 22/08/2021 14:22

Maybe glittery/sequin earrings too, or a belt?

OwlBasket · 22/08/2021 14:27

Do you have a plain coloured dress? That with the glittery flats and glittery accessories would surely be fine? Or would you prefer to buy something new?

FredaFox · 22/08/2021 14:33

That dress is a bit formal, are there no sparkly tops or T-shirt's anywhere?

Worried1305 · 22/08/2021 14:37

I don’t know what others are wearing, I only know a couple of others who are going but I will ask, that’s a good idea, thank you. I’m happy to buy something new if it doesn’t cost the earth (!) but I have a plain black dress I could wear with the flats so that could work, if I can find some nice glittery make up!

@FredaFox I did have a quick look at that but could only find clingy stuff or crop tops (eurgh).

I'd look for a sequin jacket, you can pick them up quite cheap. I'd do jeans and a nice top with a sequin jacket, some glittery earrings (all the discos do some great ones!) and some glittery make up.

Thank you @Elouera, those links both look perfect!

Yeah I was going to suggest this.

I'd go with a casual ish dress then sequin bomber and some glittery hair and/or make up.

I love that dress, it's beautiful. Might be too formal, might not, depending on what the others class as going out wear. If they're jeans/top people, it's too formal, if they're fake tan/eyelash/bodycon dress/heels people, it will be perfect (and outclass them! Wink)

I came on to suggest a sequin jacket. I went on a hen do a few years ago with a similar theme and bought one off ebay for it. It worked really well (and looked so much better than all the other sequin stuff I had tried... Sequin dresses/tops are NOT flattering!). Weirdly, I've been looking for this jacket recently to wear to a festival and, having decided I must have given it away in a recent move, I've been looking to get another one... This is one I found on ebay -

That sequinned jacket looks great. Glittery ballet shoes sound good - there are plenty of sequinned sneakers too - Ebay and Depop usually have lots.

I love that dress! Show it to the bride or others and see if they think it's too much? It would be a shame not to go for it and then find everyone was super glam and it would have been fine.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/08/2021 20:42

There was anice sequin blazer in m&s. I would go for something like that with a top and jeans.

Pinkcadillac · 22/08/2021 21:59

Or a sequin top? www.whistles.com/product/seema-sequin-top-31882.html
