Does anyone not wear jeans ?

Following on from the skinny jeans being over thread I was thinking about this. I have gone from wearing jeans literally every day from about 2002-2019 to hardly wearing them at all. Every time I put them on I just find them so restrictive. They fit me fine, not to small, they just feel uncomfortable. I hate high waists so I think that's part of the problem.

I'm considering selling them all on Ebay and just sticking to joggers when I want to he casual but will I regret it, does anyone else not wear them ?

I wear jeans everyday, it never used to be this way, when I worked (sahm) I'd akeays wear a dress and at weekends I'd usually wear a jumper dress and boots or maybe jeans and a big cable knit jumper. I've become ultra casual now. I live in a hot country and find jeans and tshirt the best way to dress, but I'm incredibly bored and I've ordered 2 midi shirt dresses and 2 mini shirt dresses. I will wear the minis with leggings as I'm in a Muslim country but in the UK I'd never wear leggings, I'd wear skin colour tights or dark opaques in the winter.

I rarely wear jeans and only have two pairs, one slim mom style, one black skinny (lol)

I agree with you, I find them a bit restrictive, they’re not comfy enough for my daily mum life with two under five, for that I prefer athleisure or loose dresses in summer.

And when I’m not doing mum stuff I like to go all out, wear dresses and nice shoes. I don’t have much of a waist so I don’t think jeans and a top is a great look on me. One thing I cannot fathom is people wearing jeans to fly long haul! Can’t think of anything worse.

lindyloo57 · 21/08/2021 13:22

I now wear slim jeans rather than skinnies, I do have 3 pairs of skinnies left, but I don't reach for them as much, I now love wideleg trousers as I am only 5ft3 they can't be too wide and I mostly have to chop some hem off, as long as they fit well on the bum and hips not baggie love them, I have Burgundy pair with soft sequins I brought in the sale from phase eight, 1 pair cream and black print from Dorothy perking sale, and two pairs of animal print from John lewis sale,

Boogiewoody · 21/08/2021 13:29

The jeans I have that I like are the next slim leg ones, they're so stretchy and soft, not too high waisted. I can't imagine wearing skinny jeans now when for years I lived in them. I think I'll have a major cull and see how I get on.

I own loads of jeans, but find them all uncomfortable. Over summer I've been wearing soft harem pants and dungarees, and off the back of this thread I've just ordered a couple of pairs of soft-looking, extra warm (I feel the cold) trousers from the Uniqlo sale for autumn/winter.

Boogiewoody · 21/08/2021 13:34

Which unique ones ?

@Icenii

I loved combats back in the day, but all the ones I have seen have elasticated or narrow ankles hems. My legs are too short, I need to be able turn them up. Loved combats and a vest top!
I'm short (5'2"), the narrow ankle type don't work for me but with elasticated hems I just shorten then put elastic in the new hem - because it's gathered you can't see my crap sewing. I like them with a skinny tee or vest top, though at 51 I'm definitely not up for low rise and a crop top any more - even when it's hot weather the thought of that cold draught (sp? draft??) around the kidneys is alarming Grin

These ones in black (got the last pair though, sorry!): www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-heattech-smart-slim-fit-straight-leg-trousers-429156COL09INS027000.html

And these ones in grey: www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-high-waisted-wide-fit-straight-leg-brushed-trousers-429204COL08SMA003000.html

I also ordered this as I think it'll look nice with the trousers and under my black cashmere cardigan: www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-heattech-jersey-lace-sleeveless-bratop-430951COL01SMA004000.html

I literally haven't worn skinny jeans since before the pandemic started. It would feel wierd now, though I haven't thrown them out.

I do have one pair of jeans I can still tolerate - Levi 501s modern cut, that are looser so you don't feel squished. But I rarely even wear them.

I also wear the Next tapered black joggers, and the M&S version. They're basically like wearing pyjamas but look respectable. I worry I'm getting into a bit of a rut with them though they're smarter looking than sports leggings I guess.

There are a lot of women around here who have fallen into a Sweaty Betty rut and may never come out tbh. Not that they look bad or anything, but there are some neighbours I literally have never seen in anything other than hoodies and leggings.

These are the jeans I have and was going to recommend to you . I do tend to only wear when I'm going out somewhere though , tend to wear joggers at home , or the Next tapered trousers another poster recommended .

BusterGonad · 21/08/2021 14:32

I don't actually find my jeans uncomfortable and I wear them on flights, they are from Mango and they are the Noa jeans. Denim with stretch but not super thin cheap denim. Only about 2 or 3% stretch. They are skinny but I don't mind that as my legs are my best body feature, they stretch nicely to accommodate my big waist but stay snug on my slim hips and bottom. They are reasonably long in the leg too.

goose1964 · 21/08/2021 14:38

I can't remember the last time I wore jeans. I find them restrictive and uncomfortable plus I can never find a pair that fits properly

Bluntness100 · 21/08/2021 15:41

I ordered these last week, they aren’t skinny skinny as slighter looser round the ankle. I wore them this morning to pop put for a couple of hours and can say not only are they really comfy, they feel similar to wearing leggings, they are also really flattering.

Shopgirl1 · 21/08/2021 16:14

I love my jeans, have lots, wear them often. I’m 6ft tall and size 10 and jeans look good on me - dresses often don’t as they are too short or not made for giants like me - waist in wrong place etc.

ArabeI · 21/08/2021 16:32

No never. The last I wore jeans hipster/low rise jeans were what I wore, and I think were vaguely fashionable. Though I've just said on another thread that I am thinking of making a first purchase of the 'new' slim fit jeans.

I do wear trousers, however; a few pairs of fitted, high-waist yoga leggings and I have cargo pants for walking (cargo pants rarely worn). I have loads of skirts and dresses and just find them more comfortable and I'm not much of a casual dresser. Though I realise jeans can be dressed 'up' and don't necessarily always look casual.

ElspethFlashman · 21/08/2021 17:33

Shopgirl I have the same problem, I'm not as tall as you but am very long waisted so all waistbands on dresses are wrong. Shift dresses or nothing, basically.

Boogiewoody · 21/08/2021 18:19

I have the marks and spencer version of the Next taper trousers and I find them comfortable. None of the Uniqlo ones left but I'll keep my eye out for them.

I never wear gym leggings as I've never been inside a gym in my life ! I think it looks a bit silly wearing gym gear as normal clothes anyway.

OP posts:
ArabeI · 21/08/2021 19:33

Yes, you do see a few people wearing gym clothes as normal clothes. I wouldn't, personally, but I suppose it's quite practical, comfortable wear.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/08/2021 19:36

I would quite like to wear my gym gear as normal clothing, as I look fucking awesome in it, but it doesn't feel quite appropriate somehow.

ArabeI · 21/08/2021 19:46

It is super-comfortable too isn;t it, Greebo!

But if your gym wear is similar to mine it would be lycra leggings or shorts and a crop top! I throw a cover up top or hooded jacket on if going to the supermarket or anywhere else en route.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 21/08/2021 19:51

I stopped wearing them circa 2004. I don't find them comfortable and they don't flatter my body shape - I am top heavy with relatively slim but short legs, small hips, big tummy and huge norks. I don't wear trousers full stop - I find A-line skirts/dresses are best at balancing my appearance.

Today (lounging round the house) I was wearing cotton culottes and a t-shirt.

HappyWipings · 21/08/2021 19:56

I don't wear jeans. I wear leggings with oversized cotton shirts or dresses with tights and boots.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 21/08/2021 20:01

I never wear jeans but never have done. Have always hated the restricted feeling of them. Even as a teen when all my friends were wearing jeans and hoodies I wore dresses and tights.
I hate the feeling of being restricted around my waits. Even if the item isn’t tight.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/08/2021 20:03

For ages I had major imposter syndrome about exercising, as a life-long "non-sporty" person, so all my gym clothes were either cheap stuff from supermarkets or charity shops. Then I realised that in my 40s I'd actually got really bloody fit, and therefore wouldn't be the walking definition of "all the gear, no idea", and allowed myself some Sweaty Betty stuff. In the sale, but still...

I'm now addicted. It's so comfy but looks so good! I suddenly understand why people spend £70 on leggings...Blush

Spaceprincess · 21/08/2021 21:06

I never wear them.
I live in dresses and wear harem pants or leggings when I'm slumming it.
