What do you think of this dress? I wore it last weekend but since uploading some pics I've had quite a few 'jokey' comments that it looks like a picnic blanket! Blush

I love the gingham print but will admit I've never had it in red so it was a gamble I guess. I styled it with converse and a belt. FWIW I'm 31 and a size 12

@Shirleyphallus

I think it’s nice. As long as you enjoyed the hoedown that’s all that matters
Exactly

It actually made me think of Dorothy/Wizard of Oz for some reason!

@GinghamDress

If YOU like the way it looks on you in the photos then wear it, unsolicited rude comments aren't worth worrying about!

Thanks everyone, I have laughed along! As I have with some of these comments. As I've said it's different for me so probably was a little sensitive.

The comments mainly came from my DH's side of the family which are known to take the piss.

Personal opinion, I think it looks like some sort of kids fancy dress costume. But if you like it (& it seems others on this thread do too), who cares!

KittyWindbag · 21/08/2021 12:52

It’s cute as hell! I bet you look cute in it. I know someone who was once told they looked like
A deckchair when they were wearing blue and white stripes. The blue and white stripes outfit was stunning and the insulter was the least fashionable person I’ve met. If you like it, let them get on with their boring fashion choices.

If it helps, I just bought a sequinned dress off eBay and DH says I’ll look like I’m going in the oven, all Bacofoil and chicken legs. Grin

I think for some people it’s a sign of affection to take the piss.

I have a gingham skirt which was made from a pattern literally called the Picnic Blanket Skirt Grin wear and enjoy, I reckon.

(That said, the Oasis dress with a liberty pattern skirt, jersey top and lace edged neck that never made it out of the house after DH blurted 'are you going for the French maid look?' still haunts me.)

Tiddleandplonk · 21/08/2021 18:29

I think if it makes u happy wear it. ! Clothes are like moving art to.me so id love to see someone joyfully wearing that. Much of it is attitude .

OlivePenderghast · 21/08/2021 18:59

I think it looks really cute especially for summer. I don’t think it’s bad that it looks like a tablecloth but I am wearing a black and white gingham dress right now Smile

TheCanyon · 21/08/2021 19:15

Reminds me of a kids painting shirt they borrowed from grandad but if you like it who cares!

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/08/2021 19:18

I saw something similar but with small checks, I loved the style but it looked like an adult version of a little girls checked summer school dress.

I like your dress though, clothes should be fun.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/08/2021 19:19

That was my school uniform 40 years ago Grin

It's fine OP, they're just jokes.

rookiemere · 21/08/2021 19:27

I think it looks lovely.

I can't stand people making jokey remarks about others appearances, inevitably they make the person being joked about feel less than they did before the remark. My DF does it, it's just a rude and unnecessary thing to do.
