best fitting bras that don't create the dreaded back fat bulge

I've tried searching on here and elsewhere but there aren't any up to date threads. I'm not overweight but am top heavy, approx 34D, I live i a frumpy cross your heart style M&S number but would love to find a bra which actually supports, isn't uncomfortable and doesn't do the dreaded back fat bulge.

Can anyone help!

During my fitting at Rigby and speller they said everyone gets the back bulge with a well fitting bra! All the support is in the back straps being tight fitting apparently. My best fitting bras, which really hold up my 34E boobs, are from there

Ok. Someone is going to say it at some point, so I might as well now.
Is your Bra the right size? If you measure where the band sits, in inches what is the answer?

I went from an M&S mrasurement to a boob and bust style measurement, and looked like I'd lost a stone instantly.

@DGFB same advice here from Rigby & Peller.
In fact, when I asked, the expression on the nice lady's face said 'we do bras not miracles'.

HumphreyCobblers · 20/08/2021 15:02

I am a bit overweight and I wear a 30 band - bet you are wearing the wrong size. I am 30G and I wear empreinte . Expensive but amazing.

I'd disagree. If you've got back fat, it's too tight!

Measure yourself OP, are you really 34 inches the chest under your boots?

Some front fastening and pull onsport s bras have more of a vest or t-shirt looking back ie all fabric not just straps ( presumably so you can wear with no extra top if you get too hot) - maybe worth looking at a few of those, though you probably will get the opposite of 'lift and separate' - more like 'squish and combine' Grin

Fluffyandsilly · 20/08/2021 15:07

I find longline bras are good for less back bulge. Might be worth trying.

BikeRunSki · 20/08/2021 15:10

I am a 34E (yes really, measured by John Lewis, local lingerie shop and Boob or Bust method) and like the Fantsie everyday bra.

CarrotPuff · 20/08/2021 15:11

If you're not overweight and wearing band 40 bra, then your bra is wrong size. As a very rough guide, your band is about 20 + your top size. But to know what it is exactly, you need to get yourself measured, preferably not at M&S.

DGFB · 20/08/2021 15:12

Actually they don’t feel tight at all, Rigby and P bras are by far the best ones to make my boobs look amazing. But I guess like anything it’s a personal choice

Weirdly primark is doing an amazing ‘back fat squashing’ bra atm.

Isabelle70 · 20/08/2021 16:02

Could it be that that bra cup is not big enough and you need to swoop and scoop the breast tissue back into the cup? When I scoop I loose the underarm extra skin look!
Have a look on the boob or bust Facebook page, even if you don’t post you can get loads of fitting information from reading through.

AnaViaSalamanca · 20/08/2021 17:34

Been told the same at many bra fittings including rigby. My personal experience (been an atheltic size 8) is that it’s just yoir body shape and where you have fat deposits. If you have some back fat there is no way around the bulge unless you are willing to wear looser bands or drastically reducing your weight. Some bra shapes might be better than others though so try different ones

I have looked long and hard about this and it’s something that some of us have to live with Sad

I'm really quite slim (BMI 20) and still get a bit of a bulge, I think it's normal.

The right fit really helps, I've just literally sorted out my size and went down in the band and up in the cup after realising I had been wearing the wrong size for years. It's been a revelation!!

lokomojo · 21/08/2021 10:03

It seems very likely you are wearing the wrong size. Measure yourself properly with www.booborbust.com/ or similar, then come back!

GreenTuftyFlowers · 21/08/2021 14:32

M&S FlexiFit are amazing - extremely comfortable, supportive, and give great shaping because of the inserts.

GreenTuftyFlowers · 21/08/2021 14:33

Forgot to say - no bulging because no thin straps!

candycane222 · 21/08/2021 15:15

Bonus points to M&S for recognising that "nude" = loads of colours. Finally.

GreenTuftyFlowers · 21/08/2021 16:35

Yes - great colours. Wish they would bring back the brighter colours too - nude is good but the bright colours layer well under v-necks etc and do double duty as bra / vest top.

Should have said it's the Flexifit crop top I was on about - very smooth and zero bulging.

Turns out I should've done this earlier, I'm a 32E Grin
