Alternative to this dress

I really like this dress by Tadashi Shoji but it seems only stockist in US. It costs almost £250 and shipping to UK is in excess of $150. It's too costly really even though it's for my son's wedding abroad next summer.

Has anyone seen or can suggest anything similar stocked here as I love the neckline and cap sleeves and cross over front (which should then skim my flabby tummy). Plus the length is just right to cover my fat knees. I've tried searching John Lewis and other high street stores. Specialist bridal shops seemto have more tailored outfits for MOB/MOG.

It's on Farfetch (so all taxes, etc. Included and easy returns)

I'd have to look but I think I can give a 15% off referral code, not sure if that brings down the price enough.

There are a couple of dresses by this designer on Yoox for under £200. It's a designer outlet based in Italy (but hassle free purchases into the UK they're part of Net A Porter) perhaps that's an alternative?

Thank you for your reply.. It still seems pricey and a bit out of my budget. I do have a good few months to keep looking and lose a few pounds.

Butikeep being drawn back to it as seems to fulfil all my 'rules'.
Thank you again

Have a look at Pretty Kitty. They definitely have cap sleeve, Bardot floral dresses.

I absolutely love the shape, but 400+ quid for
100% polyester?? I think not…

It's lovely but that dress is super low cut. It's not a crossover front either, it's a twist front, the opening of which would finish underneath the bust. If that's what you want then all good but it would be fairly revealing than most people might realise on first glance.

Karen Millen have done some similar dresses in look and feel this summer. If you haven't found anything by next spring I'd definitely look there as they are bound to do some similar lines for next year.

I am pretty busty so thanks for pointing out the low cut and I agree I'd probably be falling out of it so would end up putting a cami top underneath it.

It's so hard to find something flattering for the more mature woman that's not too frumpy. I need something to cover top of arms (and bingo wings). Fairly long to cover knees and not too tight to hide flabby tummy area. Also as wedding is abroad in summer I don't want to be too hot and bothered.

My good points are straight shoulders and I have boobs.

How about this Bombshell one? Similar sort of vibe.

Bombshell ones also good although wonder if they'll be a bit too heavy/warm ? But will keep an eye out for a more summery line.

I can imagine you would look gorgeous in one of the Nancy Mac dresses. That would be my recommendation.
The dress in the photograph is lovely. I can see why you like it. If your heart is set on it, I could buy it here (I am in the US) and post it to you. It would be around 240 pounds). Message me if I can help.

tradition · 21/08/2021 21:47

That's a very kind d offer but the comment from PP really how low cut it is has made me think twice. I love the shape but perhaps need to find something not so revealing.

You could probably get a seamstress to copy it for less than it would cost to buy (and adapt for your bust size)
