2nd date dilemma

I had a date last weekend and we are planning a garden visit for this weekend and I just don't know what to wear!

I wore the And/Or folkloric dress on our first date with obligatory white trainers. I'm only 5'2 so it is a bit longer on me than in the picture. I like the way it's fitted above the waist and long sleeves. I tried the stripy Thought skirt but my waist isn't defined enough and there was just too much fabric.

I like the Joules stripy dress pictured in comments but think it's too much, and also have the green Finery dress but my daughter say's it's too green (it is brighter than the picture) and similar in style to the folkloric dress.

Jeans might work, but am worried I will get too hot (think 50yr old menopausal woman) and am not as slim as I would like, to feel confident in them. And have no idea what I would wear with them.

Any ideas please!

Too stripy? Also really prefer a longer sleeve...

I think the green dress is lovely actually, and (assuming your date is male) I doubt he'd notice any similarities with the dress from date 1. Nothing wrong with them being similar anyway if that's your style. I'm not keen on the Joules dress, it looks like it would make someone look bigger than they are.

What would you wear if you were meeting a friend in a beer garden on a Saturday afternoon? Wear that.

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 10:37

Thanks, I like the green dress too, it's not a coloured usually wear but felt surprisingly good in it. The fit isn't as perfect as the folkloric dress. But maybe I need to try it on with different underwear, and maybe get my sewing machine out to shorten the sleeves a bit. I think 3/4 is better for me.

But what shoes? Can I wear white trainers again!? Or maybe flat sandals?

I think you're right about the stripy dress. There looks like there's a lot of fabric.

I can't see the green dress. The joules dress is great

LuvMyBubbles · 17/08/2021 10:45

Yea wear whatever shoes are comfortable. I bet he will barely notice. Enjoy

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 10:46

Never the green dress pic is one of the 3 pics in the first post. I'll see if the Joules dress is in stock in my size. I could at least try it I guess!

Doh!!! The green dress is the best of all I love it.

The skirt is a bit meh.

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 10:59

Ironically I think he is red/green colourblind anyway so god knows what colour the green dress will look!

I've put the dress on with proper underwear and am wearing it WFH to see how I feel Smile

Thank you all for the green dress love. 💚 I will go with that as I am getting too stressed looking for something else and do feel really comfortable in it.

There's a chance it might be a bit rainy so do you think a denim jacket would work with the dress? Or a cardi? I'd need to buy one, but it would be a good wardrobe staple, date aside.

Any recommendations - online?

There are some lovely denim jackets in next just now I will try and link

BreakfastOfWaffles · 17/08/2021 11:31

Definitely the green dress. If you feel comfortable, you will be able to concentrate on being yourself. I would go for either a demon jacket or a zip through hoodie as an extra layer - whichever you think you would wear most often again.

A demon jacket is definitely what I need!

Urgh, out of stock in my size. The petite would have been good too as I'm short

Haha, yes, demon jacket for demon date performance 😂😂

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 14:43

I have ordered this demon jacket. It will have to be a bloody good fit to justify the price 😩

Demon price as well? 😀 I think that will look great.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2021 17:29

You don't need to spend lots on a denim jacket. Places like Next always have them - mine from there was about £30.

The green dress is lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2021 17:30

Maybe demon jackets cost more though! Grin

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 17:47

I'll have another search for a demon jacket it was a bit of a panic buy, as there was only one left in my sizes. I'm fully expecting to send them back! Loads of places are out of stock and I don't really know what size I'll be. Anywhere from a 14-16 depending on the fit.

Needs to be short in the body too as I am!

Hopefully it will be sunny so I won't need to wear it anyway!

Tu Sainsburys had some great petite denim jackets a little while back. Cheap or expensive, they all look the same! They just need to finish at the right point, the rest us such a boxy cut that it doesn't really matter

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 18:26

Shurl everywhere is out of stock that I've looked, definitely none in Sainsbury’s now

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2021 19:12

I think this. might be mine. It's quite short in the body (I'm a hobbit) and fits quite snugly. I bought it in the snug size because I like them quite fitted across the back, but the arms are a bit snug. I see that lots of the reviewers have sized up. I really like it, other than that it's awkward to roll the sleeves up as they are so tight fitting!

AlwaysNeedCoffee · 17/08/2021 22:18

Thanks Remus I popped into Sainsbury’s this evening and tried on a jacket there but it was too long in the body, so have managed to find 2 in different (probably too dark) blues from the Next link. Not petite though, so again, may be too long in the body and arms may be too tight, but worth a go. I can always return them, but if they are ok I'll save lots of £££

Although the forecast has changed and the way it's looking now I might need a rain coat!
