Mulberry bag colours

I'm toying with taking the plunge on a Mulberry bag, the small Darley. Never spent as much on a bag but I have looking at this bag longingly for about 2 years and think I may finally go for it.

I love the tan but think the colour is too casual for an evening small bag/clutch, so trying to decide between the oxblood and black. Black is classic and will go with everything but might be a bit boring? I like the oxblood but will it go with most colours the way black will? Any thoughts from Mulberry owners? I want to get this right after humming and hawing for so long!Smile

I agree that black is a bit boring but good if you plan to use it at night.

I was recently bought the small Amberley satchel in oak and I have to say I really love the colour and think it’s much more versatile than black.

Thanks, yes I agree oak is beautiful. I'm worried it looks more suited to daytime wear though.
The Amberley satchel is fab, how do you like it?

I love my oxblood mulberry but it only feels appropriate in winter! Actually I have a black one too and again I just tend to use it in winter. I have a tan bag which gets use all year round.

I’ve just read your op again - mine are larger daytime bags, if it were a clutch I would definitely go for the oxblood. Black is a bit serious (sorry if that is an odd statement) and tan definitely too casual.

Oxblood. It's classic and will go with everything but is a little bit more unusual than black, and smarter than tan. And it's a gorgeous colour!

BeaBeaBuzz · 16/08/2021 20:32

I love my oxblood mulberry

ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon · 16/08/2021 20:56

Thanks all. Leaning towards the oxblood!

Oxblood is a really versatile colour. I have a small new Bayswater in Oxblood and I use it a lot, it goes with pretty much everything I wear. Obviously my wardrobe is based around colours that work well with it so it does depend.

I do consider it mostly an autumn/winter colour, but as an evening bag I think it could still work in the summer provided you wear it with the right colours.

I think you’re right, any tan/oak colour will look too casual.

Black is also nice and ultimately is the most versatile. But Oxblood is much more interesting.

I agree Oxblood is timeless.I have a lily in rosewater which is beautiful but definitely a summer bag. I often coordinate my occasion outfits around it! I've just picked up Bayswater clutch from Bicester in graphite as my winter occasion bag option. It's a gorgeous dark grey and think it will be super versatile.

(Not an ad but worth mentioning the virtual shopping service the Bicester store offers is excellent. All done via WhatsApp! The team were super helpful and patient - I highly recommend it if you don't mind missing out on the in-store experience.)

nancybotwinbloom · 16/08/2021 21:18

Oxblood definitely.

thenightsky · 16/08/2021 21:19

Don't get tan. I hardly ever use mine as its too casual.

TertiusLydgate · 16/08/2021 21:48

I bloody love the Amberley satchel, OP. I find myself using it every day, especially as I only carry a phone nowadays and don't bother with a wallet.

My everyday bag was a Bayswater tote. But it is so knackered looking, (after only 4 years) I no longer use it. I am considering sending it to the Mulberry spa.

Ninkanink · 16/08/2021 21:59

Oh and @ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon I have the small Darley as well and it’s a perfect evening bag!

Fully recommend the Spa. My Bayswater looks amazing
MrsRockAndRoll · 16/08/2021 22:06

I would choose black, classic & goes with everything.

ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon · 16/08/2021 22:18

Definitely feeling the love for the oxblood, though I agree @MrsRockandRoll that black is classic.

@Ninkanink great to hear you're happy with the Darley, I think it's a perfect size for evening (just for phone, some cards and cash, lipgloss and keys).

@TertiusLydgate what size did you go for? I love the Amberley but even the smallest is a bit big for evening I think. Great day time bag though. The bayswater does seem more likely to look a bit tired with wear.

@Crimbles thanks for the recommendation. When I've gone to my local outlet the colours available haven't grabbed me unfortunately, tended to be random seasonal colours and not the classic standard range. Graphite sounds very nice though.

I was facing the same dilemma 18 months ago
I went Oxblood Darley and havent looked back- it's a really versatile colour and I have used the bag through the summer too with tan/cream/more neutral outfits so much more useful than black.

PizzaBreath · 16/08/2021 23:56

I have an oxblood tessie and use it to death! Perfect for everything in autumn / winter but I do find I use it a bit less in summer. On the lookout for a tan second hand one for summer 😬

Juancornetto · 17/08/2021 09:20

Love the black and the oxblood but I find my most versatile bags are either grey or green Grin
So I'd probably go for grey (not helpful)

Ninkanink · 17/08/2021 09:23

It does depend on what colours you wear.
