Cleaning white leather trainers

How do you do it? Between us as a family we have quite a few pairs that are looking grubby but still have lots of life left, Air Force Ones, Stan Smiths etc. I'd love to get them looking newer again. Any tips?

Baby wipes here. If very scoffed, add a small blob of Jif / Cif

Soontobe60 · 15/08/2021 22:33

Scuffed!

QueenAstrid · 15/08/2021 22:34

I use bleach spray on mine to clean them, then trainer whitener. Then replace the laces from time to time. Usually does the trick!

Was going to ask this as DD is pestering me what can I do about her white Air Force 1’s - I said I’ll chuck them in washing machine with some vanish. Can I actually do this?!

Not if they’re leather
Davies1982 · 16/08/2021 04:29

Pink stuff and a toothbrush

AuntieMarys · 16/08/2021 05:27

Cif!!

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 16/08/2021 08:27

I’ve got a pot of cleaning product from Lakeland. Small pot, yellow lid, solid product with sponge on top. I’m I bed so too lazy to find out the name. It actually says in the blurb that it’s good for trainers so I used it on my airforce ones with success. It’s non caustic and smells lovely and lemony too.

White leather trainers - All bunged in the washing machine in this house with normal washing powder, come out as new.

Geamhradh · 16/08/2021 08:40

In the washer.

Geamhradh · 16/08/2021 08:41

We all have leather trainers and they go in a trainer wash every week in summer. As pps have said, they come out brand new. I do mine and dd's on 40 and dp's on 60. Sometimes have to replace the insoles afterwards, that's all. Tie the laces before they go in.

MissKeithsNeice · 16/08/2021 08:47

While they are still newish, a bit of cream cleaner, like Cif, will do a good job.

Once they're older, a colour restorer will have a huge impact: it's basically like painting your trainers. There are lots available online but I just checked and the one I last bought is called Shoeboys. You can buy a separate sole restorer to unyellow the sides of the soles, but I find the colour restorer works great on the soles too.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that i don't clean the laces and just buy new ones. Again, big impact.

I've damaged my washing machine by washing trainers in it. It would have been cheeper to replace the trainers than to fix the washing machine.

olivo · 16/08/2021 09:44

Pink stuff and a toothbrush then washing machine. Vanish works well too.

TSSDNCOP · 16/08/2021 10:06

I put my leather Adidas all stars in the wash every 6 weeks. They're 2 years old and look immaculate. I do them on a 30 with mats and pet towels just to cushion the machine. Take the laces out and put them in an old pop sock

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 16/08/2021 10:08

Don't use baby wipes on leather!

I use a damp cloth to clean off dirt and a tiny bit of furniture polish sprayed onto cloth. The blue bees wax one with no silicone.

They come up clean and shiny!

Eegeek · 16/08/2021 10:12

Pink stuff, cif, magic eraser, vanish oxy then the washing machine…. 5 of us all with white trainers, all look new…. I often replace the laces and use crep protect too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2021 10:13

Put them in a pillowcase and shove in the washing machine.

llmk · 16/08/2021 10:14

I have been washing these kind of trainers in my machine for years. Remove laces and put in a solution of boiling water, fairy liquid and bleach - wash shoes with a couple of towels (it helps with the spin cycle otherwise they sometimes come out dripping still) and wash on 40 with usual washing stuff (I use liquid)

RampantIvy · 16/08/2021 10:18

Why can't you use baby wipes on leather @Itwasgoodwhileitlasted?

Skyla2005 · 16/08/2021 13:03

I put my daughter Air Force in the washing machine on a 30 was they come up lovely

BeeOnADandelion · 16/08/2021 13:29

The sea. Take them for a paddle for half-hour and they'll come out like new.

notacooldad · 16/08/2021 13:31

The pink stuff and a damp microfiber cloth.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/08/2021 13:36

I use Cif on a damp cloth I've heard that washing in the machine can destroy adhesive so didn't risk it

Anordinarymum · 16/08/2021 13:38

How? Did you put something else in as well such as a towel/s
