Suggestions for getting blue hair dye out please?

Hi,

Does anyone know please how to get blue hair dye out? My daughter did the bottom half of her hair at the start of the school hols. It's not coming out at all and needs to be out for going back in September. It was a semi permanent one. She really doesn't want it cutting.

TIA

Fairy liquid might lift the bulk of the colour. Apparently as good as colour stripping shampoos according to my hairdresser.

OK, thanks. Will give that a go.

What colour is her hair naturally? Could you dye the blue part to match her natural hair?

OwBist · 15/08/2021 19:35

Unfortunately, blue dye often doesn't shift. Bleach or cutting are the only ways I know to get it out of mine.....

Theunamedcat · 15/08/2021 19:40

Crush vitamin c tablets or aspirin and add it to head and shoulders shampoo

Trim it out

OldTinHat · 15/08/2021 19:40

Sorry OP but it took me a couple of years to get the blue out of my hair. In the end I had to have it cut short to get rid of it. Blue is a nightmare.

dementedpixie · 15/08/2021 19:41

Has she tried one of those hair dye removers? Colour B4 or something similar.

OwlBasket · 15/08/2021 19:44

A semi-permanent willhave bleached though, won’t it? TBH you’re not going to be able to shift it entirely back to her natural colour

Her hair sounds very cool..

Yip .. you'll need to ColourB4 ..

it'll do the job .. Flowers

Try a hair colour remover (note, aremover and not astripperwhich is bleaching). I used this to remove bright magenta from my hair last year (the magenta was a 'shampoo in' colour without a developer but stuck around far longer than I was intending!).

Lovinghannah · 15/08/2021 20:08

Just a warning, hair colour remover turned my blue green.

ExplodingCarrots · 15/08/2021 20:09

I have blue hair . It really is the most impossible colour to get out. Lockdown 1 ..8 months of leaving my hair alone and my hair was still baby blue after washing it 5 times a week. Even a bleach rinse struggled to lift it out.

Newnormal99 · 15/08/2021 20:13

I did my daughters hair purple which seems to have gone blueish......was expecting I would cut it as a last resort but was hoping it would come out as promised.......

@Needaholiday101 what brand was yours....?

whiteroseredrose · 15/08/2021 20:14

From previous years on here I believe blue and green are really tricky to remove. Cutting it out may be the only option.

GalaxyGirl24 · 15/08/2021 20:24

Sorry OP, well worth trying all of the above but nothing worked for me except growing it out and cutting off ends slowly. Even when it got dyed it went a pastel blue and didn't entirely go!

Needaholiday101 · 15/08/2021 20:25

Oh no all these replies aren't sounding good, but thanks for all of them.

Her hair is normally dark blonde and it's waist length so there would be a lot to cut off! So that really would be the last option.

Just been and got some head and shoulders, also tried washing up liquid, white vinegar. I will try that colourB4 though.

It was a rebellious colour one off amazon.

My daughter dyed hers blue at new year and even the hairdresser couldn't get it out. She tried to strip it but it wasn't budging. She's had to have it dyed dark brown to cover it up (was blonde originally).

Newnormal99 · 15/08/2021 20:33

Thanks - hers is manic panic. She will have to go to a bob if it gets cut as colour is only just below her shoulders. I Better book an appointment now in case! We went to a friends last year who has over chlorinated her home pool and the pink she had then came out a week after having it done!

Oldest did bright pink this year and that has come out loads by comparison.

HavelockVetinari · 15/08/2021 20:40

Go to a professional - hair that length will already be quite dry, she needs someone experienced in colour correction to fix it, so not just any hairdresser, go to one that advertises it.

MancMum2000 · 15/08/2021 20:46

It sounds fab OP, really don’t understand why some schools are so anal about these things. Blue hair isn’t doing anyone any harm, it’s hardly dangerous or likely to affect her education.

sausagepastapot · 15/08/2021 20:47

Yep, pp are right- blue is the worst. Took me a year to full get rid of blue. I tried ketchup, vitamin c, clarifying shampoo, bleach baths. Nothing worked. Just had to grow it out.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 15/08/2021 20:53

Take her swimming with her hair down. It will probably end up with a greenish tint though. If she could go a few times it might fade enough that you could blend it in in a braid or bun.

Here is DD's that was purple, faded into blue and now at greenish stage.

AustinPowerful · 15/08/2021 20:53

Nizoral anti dandruff shampoo has completely stripped my hair colour out but that was brown dye.

You might have to take her to a hairdresser and get it sorted there.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 15/08/2021 20:54

Oh and head and shoulders shampoo seems to fade any hair dye off my hair . Annoying for me,but might help her.

cherrytrismum · 15/08/2021 21:03

My daughter had blue hair and we used tresseme ( might not have been spelt right). Just get her to wash her hair on a daily basis, definenately be out by the time school starts
