Suggestions for getting blue hair dye out please?

Hi,

Does anyone know please how to get blue hair dye out? My daughter did the bottom half of her hair at the start of the school hols. It's not coming out at all and needs to be out for going back in September. It was a semi permanent one. She really doesn't want it cutting.

TIA

Blue is the worst. Dd cut some out and then dyed the rest brown.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/08/2021 21:20

Oooh, whatever you do, don't try and put permanent over Manic Panic blue. My hairdresser showed me the results of the strand test he did six months after all obvious traces of blue had gone.

Imagine you'd mistaken Veet for hair conditioner - he said he watched it melt over the course of a couple of minutes.

I am so glad that I'd decided to go to him rather than just buying a box dye.

I’ve dyed my very light blond hair blue, lots of washing with washing up liquid shifted it but it took a couple of weeks, the blue will fade to light green. Being outside in bright sunlight faded the last tinge of it. The washing up liquid absolutely ruined my hair, about 50% of it snapped off and I was left with a mullet!! My advice would be go to a professional!

BungleandGeorge · 15/08/2021 21:56

Did she put it on unprocessed hair? If so the colour remover does work pretty well. If she has any previous processing I’d definitely just go to a hairdresser!

Yes go professional for such light colour and such long hair OP.. you don't want to lose any of it.. 🌸

My did dyed her hair blue a few years back, she's naturally blonde and when we tried colour stripping it, it then went green, we tried everything, I ended up paying £70 for a hairdresser to dye it brown to cover the green. It looked awful, we then went on holiday for a week and by day 3 of her being in the pool and in the sun her hair was blonde again.

I would recommend lots of swimming in chlorinated water and sunshine ☀️ good luck 😉

Clay. The sort you use as a body mask or face mask, get a jar of it, all over her head, under a plastic bag and leave it for half an hour minimum.
For general shampoos all my old punk and goth mates used to use Vosene to help strip colour, but a clay mask is much faster.

This type of thing.

Head & Shoulders with bicarb mixed in, lather up & leave for 30 minutes then rinse, may take a couple of goes.

Needaholiday101 · 16/08/2021 11:29

Thanks very much all, we are going to try some of the suggestions, I'll report back if any work! She is trying the bi carb and head and shoulders now.

Have booked a cut though for the 1st September so if nothing works before then will have to cut it out but it could do with a trim anyway so if it does come out will just have a trim.

Lesson learnt, don't use blue dye! 😁

If she doesn't want several inches off, then wear up with the blue ends tucked in for school. A bun would do the job of hiding blue ends.

Theunamedcat · 16/08/2021 14:09

I second the bun idea plus there are other tucked in styles available to try she could start a trend 😂

I was just jumping on to suggest a bun for school if she really wants to save the length.
QueenBee52 · 16/08/2021 14:16

my hairs always in a low Bun when Im in duty 🤣

Needaholiday101 · 16/08/2021 15:34

A bun is a good idea thanks, it will hide most of it.

The head and shoulders with bi carb has definitely lifted some, its mostly gone to green now, so will repeat it over the next few days.

My daughter wanted blue but I insisted it was only the ends (2inches) as it had to be cut off due to blue not washing out. she's a dark blonde too

P0gM0Th0in · 16/08/2021 16:15

If it has gone a little bit green, a little bit of red manic panic mixed with conditioner will neutralise it (complementary colours neutralise each other.) It should go a little bit more brown. Apparently ketchup works a bit too.

That's sensible! Unfortunately I let her and her friend do theirs together. The friend probably went a bit to high with DD's. Her friends has nearly come out though, I really didnt think it would be such a problem.

I don't think I dare do the red! 😬

I've done permanent over manic panic several times, I did a box dye over green and it was fine. It's just a stain and not harmful to hair at all, I leave it on overnight. What did he do?
