Birkenstock's

So.. I have a pair of Birkenstock's, I've had them a while now, probably coming up to two years! I remember when I bought them, I wore them for a day or two but couldn't stand them as they were so painful, so put them back into the box and forgot about them!

Well, after our recent house move, I've found and fallen in love with them again! I wondered if anybody knows a way to soften them up. I remember a friend of mine having some a while back, and they were like a soft and comfortable leather on the sole, like they had been worn in and almost softened...?

Do Birkenstock's do that? Are they always a rock solid suede type material..? I think this is what's upsetting the sole of my feet.. they're so uncomfortable!

I've never had a problem with them. I can wear straight out the box with no issues. I also have the big buckle Madrids the footbeds is leather rather than cork.

I know some people have to persevere and it takes them a couple of weeks to break in.

@ZaraW oh awesome! I just can't seem to wear them for more than an hour or two before my feet are just agony.. I am hoping that I will be able to push through and soften them!

Just wear them round the house for a bit. Having said that, mine were comfortable straight out of the box.

Wear them at home, with socks if you can (if they're not the toe post style).

The insole does become a lot smoother in wear and generally moulds to the shape of your feet.

I wear mine for no more than a couple of hours each day, you'll know when they're broken in. You're moulding them to fit your feet so it'll take a week or so.

I had this problem with Birkenstocks. I'm afraid I gave up though.

Now my Seasalt sandals, they're a different story! I wore them straight out the box and have barely taken them off since. Can easily walk 3-4 miles in them with no issue. They're so soft!

I have this problem with them unless I get the soft footbed version.

Mine soften up within a couple of hours. I also have a pair with the soft foot bed as Strawberry has just said - they are amazing.
