Are these genuine suede?

I've just purchased a pair of Geox boots (from Amazon). Gorgeous grey suede but it doesn't smell like suede and there are no labels or markings anywhere to confirm it's 100% genuine.

Amazon website states the upper is 'leather-suede' and the inner lining is synthetic. I phoned up a Geox shop to find out more, they said (unless the boots were a copy) that they would be genuine.

Honestly I cannot tell, but the complete lack of suede smell and no labels does make me wonder. Also I can't see the reverse of the outer fabric as the inner lining fully covers it.

Any advice please? On one hand I am delighted with the boots and have decided to keep them. On the other, it's misleading to describe something as leather / suede if it isn't.

Ooh that’s actually a tough one because I thought I would be able to tell immediately from the photos but I can’t!

There are a couple of buyers in the question section that aren’t sure either!

If they are synthetic then it’s a very good copy as they are a lovely pair of boots.

Exactly. It is really, really tough. The suede (if it is false) is gorgeous. As I say, I don't mind if they are synthetic but the site leads you to believe that they are definitely the genuine article. I do appreciate you looking, though!

Lovely boots,

They do not look real to me, but if they are described as leather-suede then they should be.

Look pretty real to me. Suede is hard to fake well.

Does it have a brush able napp - ie - the colour changes depending on the direction you brush it?

If you look closely and it’s fake microfibre type material you would see tiny squares of woven fabric under the outer hair.

Alternatively take a lighter to an inconspicuous part and if it melts it’s fake.. if it smells disgusting it’s leather.

Legally I think everything should have a label in it saying what it is. It might be stamped really low in the lining or be on a smalll clear sticker.

It says in description they are ? Can they blatantly lie ? Hopefully not , they are gorgeous

I wasn't sure whether they are from those Amazon pictures but if you look here at "real" pictures of them I think it's definitely genuine suede leather -

If you go to the close up you can see the fibres more closely which definitely seem to look genuine.

That's brilliant, thank you! Mine look exactly like these on the Ebay link - except there was no booklet label attached to the white chain on the loop (attached to the zipper). Thanks again :)

Thanks Panda - the boots certainly do have a napp when I brush them and the fabric looks kind of variable (slight differences in light, shade as you'd get with real suede). Alas because of the lining I can't see the other side of the suede. I do have a pair of fake suede boots to compare to. They are a good quality fake and definitely there is a different feel to them compared to the Geox pair. It's just odd that a) the Geox boots have no suedy smell at all and b) no label came with the boots stating specifically genuine leather. However they are a gorgeous, quality pair of boots and look just like the ones from the Ebay link provided from the other poster.
