I have a funeral to go to. It's a cousins funeral. We weren't overly close but it's been a shock.

I have a black dress picked out for the day.

I'm wondering, is black too formal considering I'm not the immediate family?

Should I consider wearing a different colour dress instead. I have 2 other dresses that I could consider if black is too formal - navy or maroon

I've never heard of black only being for some people at a funeral so I'd wear the black dress. Definitely not the maroon

Definitely don't wear maroon. I was at a funeral for a relatively young person with a friend who did and she stuck out, as it was very much black and proper mourning attire.

Black is fine unless they’ve said to avoid it, which occasionally happens. I usually fall back on black if there’s no other direction.

Sorry you’ve lost your cousin Flowers

Thanks for all of the replies. I will wear the black dress.
