Film themed fancy dress… help!

I’m required to wear film themed fancy dress for a hen do… what would you wear?

I’m in my 30s, size 12, dark hair.
I want something instantly recognisable. Would prefer not to have to wear a wig.

I’ve looked online but it all seems to be “adult” skimpy outfits… not really what I want!

I would go for Cher from Clueless, the yellow checked set is iconic. She has blond hair, but I don't think brunette hair would make it any less recognisable.

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany ( Black dress, pearls, cigarette holder)
Carrie Fisher in Star Wars ( Gold bikini one or White dress)

stickybear · 09/08/2021 15:25

Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 15:30

Blues Brothers - black skinnies, white shirt, bow tie, shades, maybe a hat. better if there's somebody to do it with.

Yes to Holly Golightly - easy and stylish

Uma in Pulp Fiction is a great call, if your hair is right for it

Sandy from Grease in tight black jeans and an off the shoulder black top

Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan

DoucheCanoe · 09/08/2021 15:30

I'd go as Wednesday Adams.

Hair in braids, black dress with white collar, black tights and black shoes.

"Pale" makeup.

GemmaRuby · 09/08/2021 15:34

I like the idea of Wednesday Adams or Uma Thurman potentially… I definitely don’t have the figure for Princess Leia in the gold bikini!

Julia Robets in pretty woman either the hooker look, brown spotted dress or red evening dress look

Baby from Dirty Dancing

Cat woman / poison ivy / harlequin etc.

Audrey Hepburn from breakfast at Tiffany's

Kill Bill yellow outfit

Does it have to be a female character?
I'd go as Wayne from Wayne's world!

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 09/08/2021 15:36

Could you build a car out of cardboard and 'wear' it and go as Thelma or Louise?

Isbobmyuncle · 09/08/2021 15:39

Lara Croft?

mrssmiling · 09/08/2021 15:42

Another vote for Holly Golightly - a black shift dress is easy to find, as are the accessories - long cigarette holder and lots of pearls. Add back combed hair and sunglasses, and I’ve seen a toy ginger cat carried as well. 😁 Grease is easy too - go as one of the Pink Ladies. Find a secondhand bomber jacket on Ebay and go from there.

DoucheCanoe · 09/08/2021 15:42

@ooowhataday I love the idea of Wayne - we have a similar style so I wouldn't even need to buy anything 🤣

If you're up for looking a bit daft rather than preened I dressed up as Sweeney Todd for a Halloween party a few years ago! Black leggings, boots and waistcoat, white shirt with fake blood, bloody rag and fake razor to accessorise. Back comb hair and work a bit of talc in for the dusty effect then get someone to blow blood through a seive on to you for a good spatter :o

ooowhataday · 09/08/2021 15:45

@DoucheCanoe Wayne is so easy and recognisable! Can get the cap for less than a fiver online, black t-shirt, jeans, baseball boots.. job done!

I went on a pop stars hen weekend... lots of Britney/ Christina agulara etc... I went as Slash Grin

Harry Potter/Hermione?

I once went to a Sound of Music-themed party as a goat.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/08/2021 16:26

Sarah Conner from terminator? Tank top, cargo pants, sunglasses and a fake rifle?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 09/08/2021 16:28

Or boiler suit and a gun - signourney weaver in Alien?

JonahofArk · 09/08/2021 16:35

What's your favourite film?

Bimblybomeyelash · 09/08/2021 16:37

goose1964 · 09/08/2021 20:20

Love this. And no need to do make up either.

I would wear a suit and a Ronald Reagan mask aka Patrick Swayze in Ex President form from Point Break.

Nahthatsnoton · 09/08/2021 22:08

Or I would wear a flight suit and glasses (Maverick) or Karate Kid (perhaps the shower fancy dress) or Ripley (would probably have a Newt doll and make a speech bubble saying "get away from her, you bitch").
