Could I wear this dress to a wedding?

I have a wedding to attend at the end of the month and I'm trying not to buy anything new. I've never worn this dress and I find it quite flattering, but I'm worried about the colour, is it a bit too black for a wedding?

They are both so pretty, but definitely the first one.

grey12 · 09/08/2021 15:32

Another vote for the first one. It's gorgeous!

tigerbreadandtea · 09/08/2021 15:36

The first one with yellow accessories

devildeepbluesea · 09/08/2021 15:39

I think they're both lovely and fine for a wedding. If pushed, I also prefer the first though!

DGFB · 09/08/2021 15:40

First one

MydogWillow · 09/08/2021 15:49

First one, with bright shoes etc will look lovely

RuthW · 09/08/2021 15:51

Absolutely, with a lovely fascinator and buttonhole

Hopdathelf · 09/08/2021 15:55

Both fine. I wouldn’t get a fascinator though, you’re not of pensionable age.

DelphiniumTea · 09/08/2021 16:01

I think the first one looks perfect for a wedding.

justaweeone · 09/08/2021 16:07

First one is fab, you look stunning in it!

gogohm · 09/08/2021 16:09

Either is fine but if weather is lovely I would opt for 2, if a bit miserable the first one is better (more autumnal)

shinynewapple21 · 09/08/2021 16:13

I think both dresses look good on you I actually think the second dress is more flattering but agree the first one does look more formal and dressy.

It depends on how upmarket the wedding is really. I would wear the second dress but I'm quite a casual person so that would be dressed up for me.

With the first one I would match accessories in with the colours in the skirt.

offyougotwantychops · 09/08/2021 16:37

Second dress looks more flattering. You are clearly slim and have amazing legs but the first dress falls in a really odd way, and just doesn't look good (absolutely the cut of the dress and not you OP) . Could you dress the second dress up a bit (smart cardi or shawl) if the wedding is very formal?

Blossomtoes · 09/08/2021 16:41

Absolutely the first one. The second one’s too casual.

KaptainKaveman · 09/08/2021 16:44

The first one.

LimeSodaTwist · 09/08/2021 16:47

I definitely prefer the second one, but it depends how dressy the wedding is.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 09/08/2021 17:21

I think if the weather is crap wear the first one, if the weather is nice wear the second one.

Kjr33 · 09/08/2021 19:07

First one is really nice, pick colourful accessories if you are worried about it being black

Howshouldibehave · 09/08/2021 19:13

I like the first one-it’s certainly not too black, but it’s quite wide necked? I’d worry I couldn’t wear a bra with it and the shoulders would fall off!

MiseryFire · 09/08/2021 20:21

Thank you all so much. I will have to get a strapless bra for it (no mean feat, I'm still breastfeeding my 9 month old!) and some colourful accessories, but at least I'm more comfortable wearing it.

I didn't think about the wedding theme, it's in a big marquee thing. I can't imagine it'll be hugely formal, my friend is very much a jeans and tshirt woman (as am I!), honestly I think this will be the first time I see her in a dress!

@offyougotwantychops Thank you, the one good thing I got from my mother was the legs Grin I love the colour of the second dress but all I can think of is how small my waist used to be in it. Three children will do that to you though!

First one ! Stunning , really suits you

StarlightLady · 10/08/2021 05:38

Both suit you. I prefer the first one , but unless you are confident braless or already have a strapless bra you believe and trust in, a new untested bra might spoil your day.

I gave up with trying to find a strapless bra which did the job long ago. You don’t want to be continuously adjusting it.
