How long do your Birkenstock’s last? My soles have split!

I’ve been buying these for 10 years plus, and never has this happened. I even had one pair last 4 years and survive washes in the machine!
These haven’t even been washed. Worn last summer and this.
So how old are your Birkenstock’s? I’m disappointed in these!

Mine lasted eight summers.
Just got a new pair that are being a nightmare to break in so they may never get worn enough to wear out.

I'm wearing a pair that are 14 years old! Email them with the photo and complain.

I've noticed the quality isn't what it used to be for Birkenstocks. Like everything else really. Presumably scrimping to increase the profit margin.

I haven’t got a receipt or anything, would you still try?

I have some tatty but super comfy Gizeh's that are 5 and I have walked up actual mountains in. I will actually mourn them when they finally go.
I had some Floral Madrids for over 12 years before.
Got big buckle Madrids 3 years old but rarely worn.

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2021 13:17

About 4-5 years, but they prob start to do that after a couple years.

Yes of course!

Mine are so old they were about £50 when I bought them and over £100 now 😂

Mine only last a year. Not the soles but the strap always tears in the bit where it bends with my foot.

BarberQueue · 07/08/2021 13:24

My most recent pair (about three years old) have done this.

Caspianberg · 07/08/2021 13:26

Oh years, I’m still on first pair that are 8-10 years old. Been worn everywhere, beaches, thrown in pools, in the sea, over rocks, climbing.
I would def send them back or complain somehow if used just one summer. I thought the point of them is they should last forever.

HoneyItAlreadyDid · 07/08/2021 13:30

I find I need a new pair every second year. The older pair becomes one for around the house/garden.

Melassa · 07/08/2021 13:34

My oldest ones are over 10yo, the surface has split slightly so I use them for going to the park and getting dirty. They had taken a lot of punishment, I’m not surprised they cracked.

Next pair is about 8 yo and still going strong (I was a bit kinder to them). I use them for long walks when it’s too hot for trainers.

My newest pair only come out for “best” so they stay pretty. I bought them about 2 years ago and they are the only ones that didn’t fit completely like a glove from the moment I bought them. Still comfortable, yes, but if I walk a lot the sole rubs my heels, so I do think they have changed something.

A bit like DMs, my originals from the 80s are still going strong, the ones recently purchased for DD already have a lot of wear on the soles.

QueenPeary · 07/08/2021 14:08

I've got several pairs that have lasted years, but I've worn two pairs to bits and had to throw them out - because they were my favourites and got worn the most. They still lasted 5-6 years but the soles eventually split/disintegrated.

The secret is obviously to have lots of different pairs!

SunShinesBrightly · 07/08/2021 14:13

I buy a new pair every year and have some from 4/5 years ago still going strong (if a bit smelly...)

Agree with this! I rotate them!

Flambola · 07/08/2021 18:34

Mine are 5 years old. They’re a bit smelly and sticky (?!) now but I don’t want to get rid cos they’re so comfy.
