I'm hopefully attending a wedding abroad soon, it's going to be very hot, so I'm looking for something that I won't melt in/won't show too much if I sweat. I'm 5 foot 8, size 10/12 and will be wearing nice flats/sandals.

A few contenders;

I've looked at so many I don't know what's nice anymore.. please help Grin

They all look like nice dresses but the last is polyester and the second has too much material in the legs if it's going to be very hot so I'd go with the first one depending on material.
I wore a chiffon strapless maxi dress to a wedding in 30 degree heat and I really regretted the maxi part to be honest. It seemed to trap the heat around my legs.
Hope you have a fab time.

GranolaHolmes · 04/08/2021 20:49

These are both lovely styles.

The synthetic fabrics may not be so good in the heat but they are both nice dresses.

I'd avoid the high neck if you have a short body and neck like mine.

Summersdreaming · 04/08/2021 20:56

Good points about the high necks and maxi's being hot!

First one will be the coolest

AnnaSW1 · 04/08/2021 21:00

They don't look like great options for very hot weather.

babbi · 04/08/2021 21:04

First is lovely and cool .. will look great and be cool .
2nd .. sorry I really dislike the colours .
3rd looks pretty but possibly too hot ?

waltzingparrot · 04/08/2021 21:14

The second one says it is sold out.

They are lovely styles though - they'd be cool if you could find them in silk.

Summersdreaming · 04/08/2021 21:20

I have the first one so I'm glad it has a few votes.. I've been looking for a 2nd/better option but I'm struggling, might be better to stick with it?

Boring but practical considerations-
Will you be out in the sun? Covering up in a light fabric can actually feel cooler than bare arms. Have a hat/shaded if you will be outside for long.

Have a wrap. Depending on where you are it might be cool in the evening or really cold inside if air conditioning is high. If going anywhere tropical I cover up after dark if there are mosquitoes - something light but much more pleasant than bites, especially if there is malaria.

Itsbeen84yearss · 04/08/2021 21:37

I wouldn’t wear any of those if I was an 8-10 and varicose vein free. I’m also on a horrendous dress hunt but have far more limitations than you. The first one is nice.
I’d be more inclined to go for something like that. You would have to have a little heel though at least

merryhouse · 04/08/2021 22:07

Don't like 2. 3 is lovely but polyester in Abroad Heat?

1 doesn't actually say what it's made of, which is a bit dodgy.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 04/08/2021 22:28

www.karenmillen.com/batik-woven-linen-viscose-button-through-dress/AKK03581.html This could look lovely in a hot climate I think. Viscose, so nice and cool.

asparalite · 04/08/2021 23:22

Another Karen Millen:

Cotton and linen in different colourways

Summersdreaming · 05/08/2021 07:54

Thanks for the links, I don't think a US one will arrive in time.. I love the back on the Karen Millen one!

Merry the navy one is quite heavy and lined, not sure of the material but it feels higher quality than the price would suggest, I was surprised.

I’m melting just looking at them. If you’re talking really hot (e.g. ‘a wedding in Greece in the middle of summer’ hot, I’d really be thinking about linen, cotton or silk, and probably no lower than knee length. Definitely not lined, and definitely not chiffon/polyester.

FreekStar2 · 05/08/2021 09:16

I’d be looking for something made of silk or linen for hot weather!

Jerseygirl12 · 05/08/2021 10:19

I’d need cotton and at least midi length and also for my shoulders to be covered. That way I’d stay cool but obviously everyone is diffent.

eightyeightmilesperhour · 05/08/2021 13:04

I quite like this

Loads of lovely dresses on Silk Fred

Summersdreaming · 06/08/2021 11:56

Im worried silk will cling and then show sweat marks instantly though? I'd rather be too hot and not have sweat marks Blush

The first dress in my OP is from Silk Fred, and I've looked at the one you posted before.. it's lovely.

Why not smart pale trousers - with a matching jacket for evening - much nicer with flat shoes or sandals - or even a really chic shorts suit
