Dress for a funeral

I'm not a regular on this board but I need some help.
I am looking for an outfit for a funeral and all the black dresses I'm finding are either too beachy or too slinky.
I am a size 20 short not able to wear much in the way of heels. I would need at least a half sleeve and below knee length. I would also need to get it here by Thursday, I can pay a bit more for express delivery but my budget is probably about £50.
Can anyone help?

Do you really not have something that would do? A black or dark skirt/dress/trousers?

I try not to buy something specially for funerals or it feels weird wearing it for happier occasions.

The last funeral I went to there was a wide mix of clothes on women. Mostly dark colours, but quite a bit of floral on a dark background or black trousers and white or patterned top etc.

What about this one? I'm not sure on the delivery times and it's £5 over budget but I think it would look lovely.

How about this one ?

Nousernameforme · 01/08/2021 16:23

I honestly haven't got anything, the asos one is lovely but a bit too clingy for me, the Evan's one the sleeves are a bit too short and the new look one is a bit casual plus I have a back tattoo that would be seen.
I did find one that was black.with a small blue floral print would that be ok? I'll see if I can find it again

I have the ASOS one in gingham in non curve and it's a lovely, lovely fit. I don't reckon it'd be too casual.

Do you have anything dark? I don’t remember the last time I wore black to a funeral. Navy, dark aubergine purple, dark grey. I’ve also worn a navy and white print. Somber doesn’t need to mean solid black.

bonfireheart · 01/08/2021 17:17

The Seasalt navy one looks fine and meets all your criteria.

Nousernameforme · 01/08/2021 17:20

I think that's where I am leaning towards. Will I need tights do you think. I am very pale esp in the leg region I never get them out

That is lovely @Nousernameforme.

No one (outside the royal family etc) is expected to wear solid black for a funeral anymore. Any conservative and non bright outfit is considered acceptable and younger people can more or less get off with anything. I wore a purple blouse and blue and purple skirt to my fathers funeral and that was quite a few years ago. My sister was in navy blue and white. Anything that is not too low cut/short/sexy/sporty will probably be ok.

I would save your money and spend it on something else. Mourning is done in the heart.

Posters on MN really do take things in a weird direction...

Yes to tights OP if that is what you are comfortable in. Sorry for your loss Flowers

The Seasalt one is perfect.

Nousernameforme · 01/08/2021 18:44

Thank you for all your help I am going to go with the seasalt one depending on the length it comes out on me I will stick tights on and plain black ballet flats. Tbh I just want it all over with I will breathe a sigh of relief this weekend.

The Seasalt one is lovely and you could wear that on many occasions.

Orf1abc · 01/08/2021 18:48

The Seasalt one in the painted flowers design is beautiful, and more than appropriate for a funeral. Also it will be excellent quality so you'll be able to wear it again or stick it on ebay.
